If you drop in to St Johns you might notice the sculpture Dee is working on. She is using the space to imagine the wrestling match between light and dark, St Michael and the dragon.

In the Window watching over the process we have one of her previous sculptures, St Margaret.

Meet Dee in person on Thursday, and use the art as time for reflection.

Another opportunity to visit an artist at work. You are invited to drop in and chat with her about the process of visualising St Michael (Patron Saint of Dumfries) wrestling with a dragon.

Are there any particular works of art which inspire you, and encourage your faith?

Dee will be back in St John's today.

She has chosen St John's as one of the venues where she will create her latest sculpture.

You are welcome to drop in and chat while she works, and become part of the process of visualising the wrestling match between light and dark.

The Rt Rev Dr Nicholas Bundock, Bishop of the United Diocese of Glasgow and Galloway, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev Rebecca Haughty as Rector of St Ninian’s, Castle Douglas and Christ Church, Dalbeattie. Her institution is being planned for Thursday, 16 April at 3pm in St Ninian’s Church, Castle Douglas.

Rebecca says, “I am so looking forward to coming to be with you, as Rector of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie. As I prepare for this new chapter in ministry, I am grateful for the warm welcome I have already received from members of the two vestries and am eager to get to know everyone, to listen, and to learn about the unique character and traditions of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie. My hope is to serve faithfully, to work collaboratively, and to support the congregations in our worship, outreach, and fellowship. Together, I trust we can continue to nurture a vibrant and inclusive church life that builds on the strong foundations already in place. Thank you for your prayers and support as I prepare to make the move north. I look forward to meeting you all in the coming months and to the exciting journey ahead.”

Rebecca has been serving as the Vicar of Christ Church, Coatham and All Saints, Dormanstown in the Diocese of York since 2015.

Bishop Nick says, “I’m over the moon to be welcoming yet another superb and experienced priest into our diocese. Rebecca wowed us all with her kindness and wisdom and the discernment process has done the job it’s intended to do: lead the right people, at the right time, for the right reason into a new ministry. We are building a team who will help this Diocese become a Church for Everyone…”

Please pray for Rebecca and the communities of Castle Douglas and Dalbeattie that she is called to serve.

The more observant amongst us will notice a change to the banners!

The younger members of St John's thought about themes of "Salt" and "Light" this morning. They have changed the words on the banners at the back of the church to reflect this.

What words will appear next?

Keep your eyes open and take some time to reflect!

The Rt Rev Dr Nicholas Bundock, Bishop of Glasgow and Galloway, is pleased to announce the appointment of the Rev Dr Elizabeth Breakey, Priest in Charge of St John’s, Stranraer and St Ninian’s, Portpatrick, as the newest Canon of St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Glasgow.

Bishop Nick says: "Since joining the Diocese in 2022, Elizabeth has quietly become one of those people you find yourself relying on - thoughtful, prayerful, and wise. Many of you will know her through her service on Diocesan Council, her work as clergy representative to General Synod, her involvement in the Preparatory Committee, and through her ministry as Rural Dean. She brings a rare combination of theological depth, steady pastoral instinct, and a genuine commitment to building a Church where people can belong and flourish.

Elizabeth was priested in 2013, and has a remarkable story of ministry that includes being the first woman to be ordained by a woman (Bishop Barbara Darling) in the Anglican Church of Australia. We’re deeply grateful for the gifts and experience she brings back home to Scotland - and I’m delighted the Diocese will now be strengthened by her ministry in this new way.

Please pray for Elizabeth, for her family, and for our Diocese, as we follow God’s call towards becoming a Church for Everyone."

A Service of Installation for the Rev Dawn Matthew and the Rev Dr Elizabeth Breakey will take place during Evensong at St Mary’s Cathedral, Glasgow on Sunday 15 February 2026 at 5pm (300 Great Western Road, G4 9JB). All are very welcome.
