On Sunday 14th May our Senior Band had the privilege of being the first “Band in the Lido Park”, a feature which sees a different band from around the Midlands playing each Sunday afternoon in Droitwich until 20th September.
Despite the showery weather, a good crowd surrounded the bandstand to listen and show their appreciation for the music.
Led by Louise Fisher and Charlie Green the band offered a varied programme of Salvation Army music and explanations about the pieces were given to enlighten the audience. The concert began with Andrew Mackereth’s arrangement of Ein’ Feste Burg.
Other first-half music included Soli Deo Gloria (Himes), Round Up (Cordner) and In His light (N. Silfverberg).
Offering an alternative to the brass music, vocalist Maisie Forrester gave a fabulous rendition of the song Watch What Happens from the Musical Newsies.
To end the first-half, the band played Barrie Gott’s arrangement of Daniel which featured a super solo by Joel Park on drums (see video).
After spending time talking with members of the faithful crowd during the interval, the Band began the second half of the programme with Marcus Venables’ “Hearts Ablaze”.
Other music included “Redeeming Love” (Goffin), “Whisper a prayer in the morning” (Blyth) and “What a friend” (Clarke).
Maisie returned with another vocal solo “Part of your world” from The Little Mermaid before the Band rounded off the afternoon with the March “Land of Song (Bearcroft).
It was a wonderful afternoon of music making and more importantly spreading the Gospel in the unique way that only a Salvation Army Band can do. This was further bolstered by Carolyn who had designed booklets to hand out to listeners which explained the purpose of the band and about some of the music that was played.
We look forward to continuing our ministry in this way for years to come.
