Fraternal good wishes to our brothers and sisters in Christ, the priest and people of St Dominic's Roman Catholic Church and Parish, Downham Market, on their Patronal Feast of St Dominic, priest.
St Dominic de Guzmán (1170–1221) was born in Caleruega, Spain, he dedicated his life to poverty, theological study, and preaching to combat religious controversies in C13th Europe, for which he founded the Order of Preachers in 1215-16 (commonly called the Dominicans, or Blackfriars after their black travelling cloaks). By tradition, St Dominic is also credited with spreading devotion to the Holy Rosary.
He is recognised as a Saint by the Roman Catholic Church and by the Church of England.

Almighty God,
whose servant Dominic grew in the knowledge
of your truth and formed an order of preachers
to proclaim the faith of Christ:
by your grace give to all your people a love for your word
and a longing to share the gospel,
so that the whole world may come to know you
and your Son Jesus Christ our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. R/. Amen.
