Gomde UK ian international centre for the study and practice of Tibetan Buddhism and a national centre for the development of environmental Buddhism, founded Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche in 2009. The purpose of Gomde UK is to help anyone who is interested in Buddhism to gain insight and understanding of the teachings of the Buddha and realised masters of Vajrayana Buddhism, particularly the Chokling Tersar lineage. We are registered with the English Charities Commission: registered charity number 1132050.

A few moments from the week with Khen Rinpoche and Lama Tenzin during Kurukule retreat 🪷

✨ Less than two weeks until our Kurukulla Retreat with Drubpon Lama Tenzin Sangpo 📅 11–26 October 2026

Kurukulla, known in the Chokling Tersar tradition as Pema Ḍākinī, is a feminine embodiment of enlightened wisdom. Her practice is associated with magnetising the qualities and conditions that support the path, including wisdom, happiness, health, prosperity and long life.

She often appears red and dancing, holding a flower bow and arrow, a flower hook and a noose, each an expression of her magnetising activity.

Kurukulla has a long history within Buddhist ta**ra, with more than thirty-seven sādhana liturgies preserved in the Tengyur. Within the Chokling Tersar tradition, she represents the Ḍākinī among the Three Roots of Guru, Yidam and Ḍākinī.

A very happy afternoon with Kyabje Khen Rinpoche ☀️

After a week’s rest following teachings at Gomde Pyrenees and in Austria, Rinpoche came out to enjoy the sunshine at Lindholme and set off around the island on his scooter, looking completely at home!

First stop was the library, where he spent time looking through and reading some of the beautiful old Tibetan pechas in our collection. He said that when Lama Öser comes, he would like to come here every day so they can read the pechas together. It was so lovely to see the library come alive with Rinpoche!

From there we wandered over to the Meditation Hall, and then on to see the new Temple site, where Rinpoche recited prayers of auspiciousness and rejoiced in the progress being made.

Then it was back through the sunshine for Yorkshire tea and scones at the Hall!

Such a beautiful day and we’re looking forward to these precious few weeks ahead with Kyabje Khen Rinpoche. 🙏💛

P.S. As we write this slightly belated post, Lama Öser arrived at Lindholme today! We’ll be sharing a few photos very soon. Feeling very blessed to have both Rinpoche and Lama Öser with us! 💛 🙏🪷

We are delighted to welcome Drubpon Lama Tenzin Sangpo back to Gomde UK this October for a special two-week Kurukulla Retreat. 🌺

From 11–26 October, Lama Tenzin will guide us in the practice of Kurukulla, the female wisdom deity associated with the enlightened activity of magnetising.

Within the Chöklings Tersar tradition, the Three Roots are represented by Guru (Padmasambhava), Yidam (Vajrakilaya) and Dakini (Kurukulla). This retreat continues our annual series exploring these profound practices, with this year’s retreat focusing on the Dakini.

Kurukulla, traditionally depicted in brilliant red in a dancing posture, is a powerful embodiment of enlightened wisdom whose magnetising activity draws together the favourable conditions for practice.

The retreat offers a precious opportunity for an extended period of teachings and practice under the guidance of Drubpon Lama Tenzin Sangpo, with teachings translated by Laura Dainty.

You can join us as a day retreatant or stay with us here at Gomde UK, with retreat accommodation and meals available on site at Lindholme.

Empowerment is generally required for the practice. If you are unsure whether the retreat is suitable for you, please get in touch and we will be happy to advise.

Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche’s 46th Annual Fall Seminar will take place in Lumbini this November, alongside the Second Annual Recitation of the Buddha’s Words. 🪷

Whether in person or online, we would love for you to join this precious and auspicious gathering.

Beginning on Lhabab Düchen, 1 November, monastics and lay practitioners from Buddhist traditions around the world will gather in Lumbini, the birthplace of Buddha Shakyamuni, for seven days of teachings and the recitation of the Buddha’s words.

Held at Pal Thubten Shedrub Ling, the One Thousand Golden Buddha Temple in Lumbini, the precious teachings given by Buddha Shakyamuni will be recited simultaneously in many different languages, including Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese, Tibetan, Vietnamese and English.

It is a rare opportunity for practitioners from different Buddhist traditions to come together at the Buddha’s birthplace and recite the words of our Teacher in a spirit of oneness, gathering oceans of merit to dedicate to the happiness of all beings, peace in the world and the continued presence of the Buddhadharma. 🙏

Alongside the recitation, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche and other teachers will offer teachings from 1–7 November as part of the 46th Annual Fall Seminar. This will be followed by a special second part of the seminar, with further teachings from Rinpoche from 8–10 November.

For those unable to travel to Nepal, the gathering will also be livestreamed, so you can join from wherever you are in the world.

Registration opens 1 October.

Love, kindness, humility, community…

These came up again and again at our Kinship of Faiths Gathering. ❤️

In the morning, our Youth Circle brought together young people of different faiths from across Doncaster to share their thoughts about the world they’re growing up in, their worries, and their hopes for the future. There was a wonderful sense of togetherness, and by the end, a wish to help and make a positive difference for the future.

In the afternoon, we gathered around Our Future – Connecting Together, with Khenpo Pema Namgyal, Bishop Leah, Pratima Mathur, Paul Fitzpatrick and Sensei Scott.

Khenpo shared Rinpoche’s words on kindness and a lovely example that while some prefer a red flower and others a yellow, a beautiful garden is made up of many different flowers. Our differences are part of what makes the whole beautiful. 🌺

Bishop Leah shared the Good Samaritan: what matters isn’t whether someone belongs to our group but whether we’re willing to notice, stop and help another human, regardless of faith or background.

Pratima spoke of the responsibility we have in how we choose to live, and left us with a question: when we come to the end of our lives, what will stay with us, the material things we accumulated, or the moments we helped another person?

Paul spoke of the need to look within ourselves as we try to understand one another, whether in conflict or disagreement, to question our own assumptions and to truly listen to each other.

Sensei Scott reflected on love, community and the Zen idea of ‘not knowing’. Sometimes just sitting together in silence is enough.

And then we sat in a circle.

Around 35 of us, from different faiths and no faith at all, joined the Way of the Circle, each person offering words from the heart or simply a moment of silence.

Despite our different beliefs and backgrounds, what came through was a shared wish for kindness, compassion, understanding, and to care for one another.

As Khenpo said, “One person cannot be community. The circle needs many different people… this is the beauty of humanity.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We hope this is just the beginning. ❤️

We’ve got some lovely news ahead of Heritage Day this Saturday! ✨

We’re delighted that Khenpo Pema Namgyal will be joining us at Lindholme for the day, including taking part in our Kinship of Faiths Gathering in the afternoon. 🪷

From 2pm, friends and faith leaders from across Doncaster will come together around the theme Our Future – Connecting Together.

We’ll be joined by Khenpo Pema Namgyal representing the Buddhist tradition, Bishop Leah, the Bishop of Doncaster, representing the Church of England, alongside friends and representatives from Doncaster’s Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Christian communities. Each will share a short reflection before we open the circle for everyone to join the conversation and take part.

And the younger generation gets a say too! At 11.30am we’ll have a Youth Circle for ages 10–16, with young people from across Doncaster coming together to share their own ideas and hopes for the future.

For those who enjoy time out in nature, you can walk the Kora around Lindholme Island at any time between 9.30am and 4pm. 🚶🌳 There are routes from just 100 yards right up to three miles, so little legs (and grown-up legs!) can choose how far they fancy going.

There’ll also be tours of Lindholme Hall, picnic spots, a play area, homemade lemonade, tea and coffee and plenty of homemade cake. 🍰

Our youngest volunteers have already had a rehearsal ‘get together’ and are determined not to be outdone — so expect them to be here in force too! 😄

Come for a walk, stay for some cake, explore a little history, take part in the conversations, enjoy a picnic — or make a whole day of it.

Join us for Lindholme Heritage Open Day! ✨ 🗓️ Saturday 12 September | Lindholme Hall, Doncaster

For around 5,000 years, this remote island on the moors has had quite a story — from prehistoric communities and the strange and wonderful tales of the hermit William of Lindholme, to farming, peat working and local heroes who campaigned to protect the surrounding moors — including entomologist and conservationist Peter Skidmore, who you might spot in our poster!

And that’s only a tiny bit of the story…come and discover more on the day!

There’ll be plenty to see and do:

Today we join friends and students around the world in wishing our precious guide and teacher, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche, a very happy birthday. 🪷☀️

Rinpoche’s extraordinary kindness, wisdom and tireless activity continue to touch the lives of so many, and we are deeply grateful for his guidance and for all that has grown here at Gomde UK through his vision and care.

May Rinpoche enjoy a long and healthy life, may his aspirations be effortlessly fulfilled, and may his compassionate activity continue to flourish for the benefit of beings everywhere.
