A Christian Aid Week Prayer
As we reach the midway point of Christian Aid Week 2026, a prayer from Rev George Mackay, Moderator of the of Glasgow
The red admiral flits from flower to flower,
she holds on to the sudden surge of the breeze,
a symbol of possibility,
a reminder of the fact that through darkness and difficulty,
something bright and beautiful is possible.
Love is like a butterfly – both fragile but emotionally evolving,
gently bringing a myriad of colour –
the painted lady, the small copper,
the green-veined white.
Help us Lord, because life is fragile too,
that we seek to bring beauty to your world,
to transform the hard and hurtful to places of hope.
Where are the butterflies today?
Can you be one?
In Church and community,
in lands of plenty and places barren and bare,
can you take to flight and through your loveliness of the Lord,
wing your way through prayer and practice being the aid to others?
So, Lord, this day,
as we focus on Christian Aid Week,
we pray especially for those who give
to be the messengers of change,
from flower to flower,
from fear to a faith that lifts and soars.
The butterfly knows of the necessity of change –
We look at the world – so do we.
AMEN
