This Friday's Eight o'clock dedication will be rung to celebrate the life of Margaret Peebles whose funeral took place on Wednesday in Scotland.

Margaret lived in Swanton Morley after her husband, Jim Peebles, was posted to RAF Swanton Morley. Upon leaving the RAF, they moved to South Queensferry in Scotland, but without their eldest daughter Gillian who had by then married Darren Hall. They went on to have a son, Aaron, who is our Tower Captain.

Margaret was never one who liked much of a fuss, but tonight the bells will be ringing out across the village to celebrate her life and to let everyone know what a special Nan she was.

We hope you will listen out for us tonight.

Usually we say watch us on Facebook LIVE but as that's not been very successful the past few times we will also be recording the ringing. If the LIVE stream fails we upload the video for you to watch as soon as possible.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them,
we will remember them.

We shall be ringing from 10:15 this morning prior to All Saints' Service of Remembrance

Sadly no practice tonight at Swanton Morley. All being well we will be back to normal next week.

Tonight’s Eight O’clock Dedication is being rung to celebrate the life of Peter Woodcock, Tower Captain at All Saints Shipdham, who passed away on Monday at the age of 90

We were always pleased to see Peter whenever he came across and join us at Swanton. Peter was one of those people you couldn’t help but like. He was always happy to help out when he could and had a wealth of stories from his many years of ringing.

Peter had rung at Shipdham for 70 years, being their tower captain for many of those. His enthusiasm for ringing was infectious and he was always able to get a non ringer at the end of the rope and having a go.

One thing that always amazed us was how, if he was trying to get your attention to follow him, he would lean forward Michael Jackson style. This once resulted in him falling off the box and a few minutes later the ringing fell apart as the ringers dissolved into laugher!

Tonight we will also be dedicating tonight’s ringing to a special furry friend, Ghost. Despite not belonging to any members of the band, Ghost was was well known by a number of the ringers and was loved by all who were lucky to get to know him.

Animals have a way of capturing our hearts and bring us great joy, love and comfort, often when we need it most and little Ghost certainly did that.

When we loose an animal, their passing can be just as painful as if you had lost a close friend. Even though his sudden passing at 6 was heartbreaking, we are just thankful that we were lucky enough to have had him in our lives.

A brilliant practice last night. One of the busiest we’ve had in a while. Lots of first class ringing. A first attempt at Plain hunt; others progressing well with plain hunt and we even got in some bob doubles.

Whilst there may have been no bells at midnight this year at All Saints, the ringers would like to wish all of you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Maybe make 2024 the year you learnt to bell ring!
