The Autumn Footprints Walking Festival offers a great choice of 24 guided walks from 12 – 27 September 2026. Sixteen days of enjoyable walks and informative talks with something for everybody of all abilities.
Set in picturesque Derbyshire, the festival takes place in an area known for its natural beauty and superb scenery. Popular with both novice and experience walkers wanting to enjoy the beautiful colours of autumn and the area's fabulous views, undulating countryside, industrial heritage and attractive towns and villages.
Led by knowledgeable local volunteers and staff keen to show off their patch, you will discover a wide variety of walks to explore local heritage, natural history and wildlife. The routes take in walks alongside rivers and canals, as well as through open countryside, towns and villages.

**🌧️ FLOODING SUPPORT – FREE SANDBAGS AND SAND AVAILABLE 🌧️**

Draycott & Church Wilne Parish Council would like to remind residents that, in the event of flooding or a flood risk, **free sandbags and sand are available to help protect homes and properties**.

📍 **Location:**
Car park opposite the Parish Rooms Office
Elvaston Street, Draycott
DE72 3PY

Please note:

* Residents will need to **bring their own spade** to fill the sandbags.
* Residents will also need to be able to **transport the filled sandbags to their own property**.
* Sand and bags are provided free of charge for residents to use to help protect their homes from flooding.

Alan took this photo to show what a great job the friends of St Chads LNR are doing by creating views from each bench around the lake. The next session is on Monday 7th September from 9am - 1pm - come along, meet some new people and spend time in this beautiful place

Please do not visit St Chads on Friday 21st August - we need to ensure the safety of the workers. They will be using machinery around the whole of the site and it is not safe to keep any of it open whilst they are doing the work.

I will put posters up at St Chads today for those who might not use social media / come from other areas.

Updates from the Friends of St Chads Local Nature Reserve - work from Monday 17th August 2026

Another productive morning down at Church Wilne. Roger, John, Sam and Dave were joined by Jane and we split in to two groups to tackle distinct areas of the lake. We were grateful for cooler temperatures to work in and much appreciated the many positive comments on our efforts from those enjoying a walk around the lake this morning.

Sam and Jane worked on an area where we had previously opened up a view to make both benches and the view from them far more inviting. Taking back some of the overhanging branches has really made a difference. Brash piles have been created for wildlife near to the benches.

Roger, John and Dave were able to remove the last large branch that had fallen over in to the lake and make the remaining snapped and hanging limbs safe. It took a bit of effort to haul all of the tree limbs out of the lake and they have been discreetly stacked to provide areas for insects and wildlife. Again, it has opened up the view and given the opportunity for other trees and fauna to flourish over time.

Next volunteering session will be in a few weeks time with people being away and the bank holiday so the plan is to return next on Monday 7th September from 9am-1pm
