The third elder we’re introducing to you is David…

💼 Life Outside the Church:
I work in engineering for a large local employer. My wife Carianne and I love the outdoors - country walks, camping holidays and cycling. We have an international family and enjoy meeting people from other cultures and languages.

📖 A Verse Close to the Heart:
Titus 3v4-8 - “But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Saviour appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Saviour, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works.”

I love these words because they tell me...

God is my Saviour. The God who made me is good and kind. He has saved me from a wasted life of rebelling against him and the punishment that deserves. This is not because of any good things I’ve done, but because of his mercy.

The Holy Spirit is my life-giver. He has washed me clean from the guilt of my wrongdoing and given me new life in Jesus.

Jesus is my Saviour. Jesus took the punishment that my sins deserve when he died on the cross. I’m justified by God’s grace. That means God (the perfect judge) sees me as righteous because I believe Jesus died in my place and paid my debt. This is by grace. It’s God’s free gift, not something I’ve earned. Because God brought Jesus back to life, I have the certain hope of living forever with God - my guaranteed inheritance.

Because God has done so much for me, I want my life to be full of good done for him - in my family, in my church, at work and in society.

🙏 His Prayer for Our Church:
I pray that increasingly we will…
• Understand how wonderful God is and the amazing things Jesus has done for us
• Be shaped by God’s perfect design for us in the Bible
• Help others come to know the Lord Jesus for themselves

Jesus is the light of the world💡

Richard spoke to us last Sunday morning on 2 Corinthians 5:1-10. “For we walk by faith, not by sight”- verse 7. As Christians we have a hope before us that drives us to walk by faith and not by sight. That hope is a light in the darkness of this world. That hope is God.

October’s Book Review 📖
We’d love to share some of the books our congregation have been getting stuck into, so come along with us as we explore different Christian books each month.

Our first book is ‘Plugged In’ by Daniel Strange, reviewed by Hannah.

“I genuinely found this book really helpful as it challenged me not to consume culture, what I watch, read and play, thoughtlessly but rather to think and discern the messages given in a way that actually feeds my faith rather than undermines it.

I found the framework and practical examples to be useful as they showed how I can confront and connect with culture to find elements which I can use to point to the better story of the gospel of Christ.

I’d recommend this to anyone who would like to grow in the way they think and speak about the culture we live in and use what they watch and read to both enrich their own faith and to point others to Jesus.”

The next elder we’d like to introduce to you is Lee…

💼 Life Outside the Church:
I work in education and enjoy painting, looking after my allotment, and a variety of sports including golf.

📖 A Verse Close to the Heart: Ephesians 2 v 8 - “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.”
This verse reminds me that salvation is a free gift from God and not something that is my own doing.

🙏 His Prayer for Our Church: That we might grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.”
— Matthew 18:20 🤍

There’s something special about gathering together. It gives us the opportunity to unite in worship, grow in truth, pray together and share in the journey of life.

What a joy it is to share these moments as a church family, knowing that wherever we gather in His name, God is with us.

We’d love to welcome you to one of our Sunday services at the Derby Conference Centre.

Come and gather with us 😊

As we grow together as a church family, we want you to get to know the hearts of the leaders serving behind the scenes. This week, we are introducing Richard, our full-time elder…

💼 Life outside the Church: I’m married to Hannah; we have five children and one crazy dog! I am passionate about learning languages, I enjoy good books and love being in the great outdoors walking or cycling.

📖 A Verse Close to the Heart: Acts 2 v 42 - “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers”. I love this picture of a church devoted to the Lord and each other; this is our vision for Castlefields!

🙏 His Prayer for Our Church: “Lord, grow us in Christ-like love, unity, holiness, and mission, so that our life together brings glory to you.”
