What hinders you from worshipping extravagantly?

This was one of the questions Paul left us reflecting on as he unpacked the story of the woman who anointed Jesus. Extravagant worship is often costly. It may cost us our comfort, our pride, our time, our resources or our desire for the approval of others.

True worship begins when our focus shifts from ourselves to Jesus. As we behold Him, our hearts are drawn into deeper devotion, surrender and love. What might God be inviting you to lay aside so that you can worship Him more freely and wholeheartedly?

One of the key themes from Sunday's message was that worship is about much more than singing songs. Worship begins with fixing our eyes on God and responding to the revelation of His character, goodness and love.

Paul reminded us that worship is what we were created for. As we spend time in God's presence, we are transformed and our perspective begins to change. Instead of being dominated by our circumstances, worries and challenges, we learn to see them in the light of God's greatness.

The invitation was to cultivate hearts that are attentive to God, allowing worship to become a daily response to who He is rather than something reserved for a Sunday gathering.

On Sunday we were joined by Paul Phillips, who spoke to us about extravagant worship.

Using the account of the woman with the alabaster jar in Mark 14:3–9, Paul challenged us to consider what true worship looks like. Carrying a jar of extremely expensive perfume, the woman broke it open and poured it over Jesus in an act of complete devotion and surrender.

What stood out was not simply the value of her gift, but the condition of her heart. While others saw waste, Jesus saw worship. Her actions revealed a love for Christ that was wholehearted, sacrificial and unashamed.

Sunday's message finished by reminding us that following Jesus is never passive. Pentecost wasn’t just the birth of the Church, it was the commissioning of ordinary people to join in with what God is doing in the world.

Every person has a place, a purpose, and a part to play.

This week, take a moment to ask: Where might God be inviting me to step out, trust Him, or bring hope to someone else?

One of the themes we explored on Sunday was that Pentecost wasn’t an isolated moment. It echoed the whole Exodus story. Just as Moses encountered God in the wilderness and was called to lead people out of slavery, Pentecost marked the moment ordinary disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit and sent out with purpose.

Andrew spoke about how God meets people in moments of uncertainty, questions of identity, and seasons of transition, just as He did with Moses. Pentecost reminds us that God still calls ordinary people into extraordinary purposes. Not because they have everything figured out, but because His Spirit is with them.

Sunday was Pentecost, and Andrew spoke to us about how this moment in Acts 2 was never random - it was deeply connected to the Exodus story.

Just as Pentecost in the Old Testament celebrated freedom from slavery and God giving the law to Moses, Pentecost in Acts marked the beginning of a new freedom through the Holy Spirit.

It’s easy to give God a place in our lives - but is He truly first?

Jesus doesn’t want to be an occasional passenger; He wants to lead every part of who we are.

“Seek first the Kingdom of God…”
When He is first in our finances, interests, relationships, schedule, and troubles, everything else begins to find its proper place.

“The heart of the human problem is the problem of the human heart.”

Jesus didn’t come just to improve behaviour — He came to transform hearts.
John 3:16 reminds us that God saw our brokenness, loved us anyway, and made a way for forgiveness, new life, and hope through His Son.

Faith begins when we stop pretending we can fix ourselves and accept the invitation of Jesus.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” - John 3:16

On Sunday, J John spoke about how Christianity is more than religion - it’s an invitation.
An invitation to forgiveness from the past, new life today, and hope for the future.
