The choir meet every Friday evening at 6.30pm - 7.30pm to practice in church, and sing at the 10am Sunday services, as well as once a month (the third Sunday) singing choral evensong at 6pm.

Tomorrow at St.Matthew's Church Darley Abbey we are celebrating our Patronal Festival with two services, joined by the choir of St Edmund's Church Allestree; at 10am we have Bishop Libby joining us to take our choral communion service, where as well as some lovely hymns and a psalm, the choir will be singing some Bach. At 6pm we have choral evensong which will include Schubert, Sanders, Nobel, and our very own St Matthew’s anthem, written 5 years ago for our Bicentenery by former St Matthew’s vicar David Mowbray (words) and Derby singer and composer Jacqueline Burley (music)

Everyone is welcome to either service or both, children included, and please don’t worry about them running around or making noise, we don’t mind, we just love to see them ❤️

Tonight the choirs of St Matthew’s and St Edmund’s will be singing the magnificent Lobet Gott in seinen Reichen by JS Bach, for our ascension day service. Come and listen if you can. The service starts at 7.30pm and lasts about an hour. All welcome 😊

Tomorrow we have a special choral evensong to celebrate our patronal festival (St Matthew’s day is 21st September) Do come along if you can, all are welcome, and there will be refreshments afterwards.

For those who don’t know what choral evensong is, it’s a very musical service, mostly sung by the choir, but there are also hymns sung by everyone. It lasts about 50 minutes, and you don’t need to be a regular churchgoer to attend.

Today our youngest chorister was finally admitted to the the choir! Just over two years since she joined, but due to Covid she’s only had 4 months of lessons, so both she and our wonderful choir trainer John B have worked incredibly hard to get her white ribbon, well done to them both! 🎵🎶
