🌈 4 YEARS OF DERBY INCLUSIVE FELLOWSHIP 🌈

Four years of radical welcome.
Four years of inclusive worship.
Four years of open communion.
Four years of journeying together in faith.
Four years of creating community.

Our story began with a simple invitation:

“Come, taste and see.”

Since then, we have been discovering what it means to be a community of spiritually and sexually diverse people, grounded in God's radical and enduring love.

We don't all believe exactly the same things.
We don't have to.

Our diversity is part of our community.

Together, we are learning to affirm our bodies, genders and sexualities; to ask difficult questions; to listen deeply; to celebrate life's milestones; and to walk with one another through life's joys and struggles.

We seek not only to proclaim the liberating Gospel, but to participate in it — becoming a healing presence, doing justice, challenging systems that harm people and creation, and transforming ourselves as we work to transform the world.

We are one small part of the wider Body of Christ — shaped by Scripture, the historic creeds, those who have gone before us, and the ongoing conversation of faith.

And at the heart of it all is Jesus, who invites us to the feast.

Four years in, our calling is still unfinished.

The table is still open.
The conversation continues.
The journey continues.

Today in history: Metropolitan Community Church was founded - October 6, 1968.

On this day in 1968, eight months before the Stonewall Riots, a quiet revolution of faith and radical inclusion began in a Huntington Park, California living room.

Reverend Troy Perry held the very first service of the Metropolitan Community Church (MCC) with just 12 people in attendance. At a time when being openly LGBTQ+ was criminalized, condemned, and pathologized, MCC dared to preach a simple, transformative message: God loves you just as you are.

What started around a coffee table grew into the world’s first church denomination with a primary, affirmative ministry for the LGBTQ+ community. MCC went on to pioneer early civil rights marches, advocate for marriage equality decades before it was legalized, and offer a sacred home to those who had been turned away elsewhere.

58 years later, that living room gathering has blossomed into a global movement spanning dozens of countries, proving that love, faith, and authenticity can build bridges where walls used to stand. ️

This Bisexual Awareness Week, Metropolitan Community Churches celebrates the rich diversity of God’s creation and stands proudly with our bisexual, pansexual, and fluid community members.

Love is inclusive. Faith is expansive. God’s grace belongs to everyone. 💖💜💙

Thank you to everyone who came to help at Pride on our Derby Inclusive Fellowship. We had a blast, from Caroline doing her puppet show to handing out stickers and bookmarks. And the weather did not stop us having a fantastic day meeting and talking to lots of people.

Now we prepare for our post PRIDE commuion Celebration on Sunday 20th September @2:30pm it will be online and in-person. And we want to o welcome you all to celebrate with us.

Thank you to all Derby Pride from organisers to volunteers you made the day fun and amazing for all in our community.
