🎹✨ Meet the organ!

Pupils from Bradley CE Primary School recently went behind the scenes with one of the most fascinating instruments around as part of our Music in Schools Programme.

At All Saints Church in Bradley, pupils enjoyed a hands-on workshop with Dr Elizabeth Jones, our Keyboard Tutor for Schools, and Robert Greenwood, Organ Scholar, discovering the wonderful world of the organ — from its music and sound to the mechanics that make this incredible instrument work. 🎶🔧

A special thank you to the Derby and District Organists’ Association for lending us their model organ, giving the children an even closer look at the fascinating mechanics behind this amazing instrument! 🙌

It was a brilliant opportunity to get curious, get hands-on and discover where music can take you! 🎵

Huge congratulations to eleven of our choristers and Junior Choral Scholars, who sang Handel’s Saul with Gabrieli in Ely Cathedral last night, bringing an amazing residential course to a spectacular close. 🌟👏

You were absolutely phenomenal! 💙🎵

We’re so grateful to Gabrieli Roar and their wonderful team for providing this unforgettable opportunity to perform under the direction of Paul McCreesh 🎼, alongside Creative Directors Charles MacDougall and Emily Dickens, and their fantastic colleagues. 🙌

To share the stage with a world-renowned orchestra and soloists is a truly special experience—one that will inspire and stay with these young musicians for a lifetime. 🎻✨🎺
Bravo to everyone involved! 👏🌟🎶

This evening, our Organ Scholar, Robert Greenwood, performed in Rising Stars, the Organ Scholars’ Showcase Concert as part of the Beauty in Sound 2026 Summer Organ Festival.

Joining fellow Organ Scholars from cathedrals and universities across the country, Robert gave a superb performance of the Prelude and Fugue in E minor from the Eight Short Preludes and Fugues, traditionally attributed to J.S. Bach.

We’re especially proud of Robert today, as it has also been announced that, from September, he will be Organ Scholar at St Andrew’s Cathedral, Aberdeen, alongside beginning his undergraduate studies in Music at the University of Aberdeen. We wish him every success as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.

Congratulations, Robert—we’re incredibly proud! 👏🎶

🎹✨ What a fantastic evening!

On Monday, eight remarkable young organists from our Music in Schools Programme Keyboard Pathway performed in our Young Organists’ Showcase, delighting a packed audience before our Summer Organ Concert.

The standard of playing was exceptional. Each performer brought confidence, musicality and real artistry to their performance, and it was wonderful to see how much they have grown as musicians. We couldn’t be prouder of them all – congratulations to every one of our young organists! 👏

Do you know a child in or around Derby who would love to learn the organ? Derby Cathedral is one of only a handful of cathedrals in the UK currently offering this kind of programme, making it a truly unique opportunity to learn an extraordinary instrument, develop outstanding musicianship and become part of something very special.

If you know a young person who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you.

We are hugely grateful to the donors and partners who make this work possible:
🎵 Cathedral Music Trust
🎵 Derby and District Organists' Association
🎵 Royal College of Organists
🎵 Derby & Derbyshire Music Partnership
