Although this memory still blows my mind, there have been many Universal co-incidences recently. Things happen for a reason, people come into our lives for a reason, even when that reason isn't always plain to see, trust in the Universe, it will always find a way to guide you. 🙏

Coincidence or the Universe at work?
A family arranging a funeral asked the arranging undertaker for a humanist minister as they wanted a non religious ceremony. After chatting with the family, the arranger suggested that due to their personalities, I would be the most suitable minister to conduct the funeral.
On the evening of meeting with the family, I learned that the ladies husband suffered from altzeimhers and dotted around their home were white butterflies, each one representing her husband’s memories.
During the course of our meeting, I casually asked what she had planned to do with her husband’s ashes. I always ask for no other reason than to satisfy my own curiosity.
She told me that she was going to have a glass butterfly made and the body of the butterfly was going to contain her husbands ashes. A rather fitting tribute, and it is something that on dealing with many families I had never heard of before.
So I came away to prepare the service, ready for the funeral in just a few days time.
As it is also the school holidays, my son has endured many days of attending funerals and waiting for me or being minded by friends while I visited families.
Today I had no plans, no funerals, no families to see, no services to write, and I fancied a trip out but couldn’t decide where to go.
For some reason this morning I decided to try and find a candle workshop, something fun, educational and something we could do together.
On my honeymoon 5 years ago, this is something that myself and my husband had stumbled across and we had a lot of fun doing it. I remembered it was Northwich way and so we set off and drove about 50 miles in that direction. After driving for a time, I couldn’t find the place that we had gone to before but came across a place called Blakemere Craft Centre. And myself and my son, went and did our candles.
The place was like a little village full of antique stores, outdoor activities and restaurants. We came across a courtyard full of quaint little shops, and the first one we went into was a glass designer, and I was taken by his pendants that were on display that seemingly housed galaxies. We spent some time looking at all the unique jewellery that the owner, a burly biker kind of bloke hand made.
As we turned to leave, he asked if we had seen anything we like. I commented about the galaxy pendants and that as I believe that God is the universe and in my role within the Unitarian church these spoke to me. He commented that he also makes bespoke ashes into glass, and he shown me a piece he was about to put in the kiln for firing. It was a glass butterfly.
He told me that the body of the butterfly was going to contain a man’s ashes.
I looked directly at the man and asked, “The woman who has ordered this, she wasn’t called Moira was she?” And I told him her surname.
He stared at me in disbelief, “yes”.
“I am conducting her husbands funeral on Monday” I said.
We both stood there in disbelief and as I told him that it was never my intention to come here today that infact we got lost and we just happened upon this place and of course his shop. His eyes started to well up with tears. I can’t believe it he said, there is a reason you have been sent here today.
“I know” I said. And I plan to return to buy a galaxy pendant from him, hopefully soon.
So is it co-incidence that I got lost and ended up here at the exact time that he was about to place this item in the kiln. I could have walked out of the shop without even chatting to him and never been any the wiser.
Co-incidence or the universe at work? I ‘ll let you decide.

****JC's Christmas Message ******
As we celebrate Christmas and New year is soon approaching, it is inevitable that we reflect on the year that has passed and the year that is to come, consider this:
David Bowie was originally asked to write the lyrics to a little known French song but his lyrics were rejected, soon after Paul Anka had a go at writing them and after purchasing the rights to the song that song became My Way.
Obviously miffed at being rejected, Bowie said he would write something better and instead wrote a parody of My Way.... This became a worldwide hit too, known to us as Life On Mars.
So if you feel that things haven't gone your way this year, remember that better things may lie ahead for you and if you so it in your own style, your being true to yourself rather than conforming to what other people want you to be.
If you are given the opportunity to do something do it, Paul Anka also took a chance and that too certainly paid off.
Remember that the universe works in mysterious ways, even the rubbish that it throws at us can be an opportunity, an opportunity to do something better, something in our own way, an opportunity to love more, to risk more and be more.
Happy Christmas and a very happy 2023 everyone!
