We have a stall at this year's Teddy Bears' Picnic, so pop down and see us and the other stallholders on Sunday in the play/swingy dene (what does your generation call it? 🤔)

Come along and have fun at our traditional Teddy Bears Picnic in the Play Dene - Sunday, 17th May 2026, 12 to 3 pm. Free Teddy Bear Hunt, tombola, hotdogs, stalls and more.

Eve's funeral will be on Thursday here at St Matthew and St Luke Darlington at 12:30. If you are coming to the funeral please wear a splash of purple as it was Eve's favourite colour.

A Darlington family has spoken of their heartbreak after the sudden death of a “ray of sunshine” who touched the lives of many across the town.

All. Not some.

Dietrich didn’t leave room for loopholes.

Not a “manageable” level of injustice.
Not “a tolerable level” of evil.
Not dishonesty dressed up as strategy.
Not oppression rebranded as necessity.

Because God never did.

Jesus told a story about a shepherd who left ninety-nine sheep… to go after one that was lost (Luke 15:4–7).

Not because the ninety-nine didn’t matter—
but because the one did.

That’s the heart of God.

So when we start negotiating how much injustice we can tolerate…

how much suffering is acceptable…

how much “collateral damage” we’re willing to overlook…

we’re no longer reflecting Jesus.

We’re excusing what He came to confront.

Because a “yes” to God
doesn’t coexist with a quiet tolerance
of what breaks His heart.

This Sunday (May 3rd) there will be a special evening Holy Communion service at 6pm. Everyone is welcome as we gather around the altar to share in the joyous mystery of God with us in bread and wine.

Today we said thank you and goodbye to Geoff who has served us as churchwarden for the last 3 years. Geoff is moving on to live in Teesdale and we wish him all the best for the future. Diocese of Durham
