We had a very successful "Organ Trail" event in Dalton today, Saturday 30th May. Ulverston International Music Festival arranged for David Pipe (organist at Cartmel Priory and Huddersfield Town Hall) to perform on Dalton Parish Church organ, followed by Dalton Community Church organ. The audience walked between the two venues and were greeted at Dalton Community Church by Mark Latimer's Dutch-style street organ "Lily". Around 60 attended and David demonstrated the different sounds of flutes and strings that our organ produces, as well as the fuller sound when all the stops are drawn, in a range of pieces by composers including J S Bach, Mozart, Buxtehude and a modern Austrian composer called Danksagmuller. Mark also described some of the organ's history and how it came to be dismantled and rebuilt at Market Street.
