He is risen! He is risen indeed!

Today is day eight on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail. Here is the eighth poster so you know what to look for.

Today couldn’t be a greater contrast to the last two days. That sense of grief and failure, replace with amazed unbelieving joy. Jesus is alive!

You’ll find today’s poster outside the Cromarty East Church. Why not come and find it either by following the trail from Cromarty West Church (gathering at 11:00) or by coming to direct to the East Church at 11:30 for an Easter Celebration and egg hunt followed by tea, coffee and hot-cross buns.

Dead and Burried. Today is day seven on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail. Here is the seventh poster so you know what to look for.

So, it’s all over, Jesus’ mission is a failure. He is dead and buried and with him all the hopes and expectations his followers had. The one they hoped was the Messiah had been killed as a common criminal. They hadn’t understood Jesus’ predictions about suffering and dying and (spoiler alert!) his resurrection.

Remember there is new poster somewhere in Cromarty every day this week. Lookout for them. If you spot one why not take a photo and show us. If you haven’t found them all why not join the trail walk on Easter Sunday Morning. We’ll start outside the West Church setting off at 11:00. We’ll end up at the East Church for an Easter Celebration and egg hunt. So, if you’d rather not walk just join in at the East church at 11:30.

Good Friday. Today is day six on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail. Here is the sixth poster so you know what to look for.

What’s good about today? On the face of it nothing much, the events of Good Friday were so dark and bleak, a day of suffering and death for Jesus. A day of loss and grief for those who loved him.

But it’s a day when despite appearances hope appears in a world of hopelessness. It’s called Good Friday because we can’t deal with the wrong things in our lives. We need God to intervene and, in his mercy, forgive us. This can only happen because of Jesus’ death. His death broke the bonds of death and sin for everyone!

If you want to find a quiet space to day, to think, reflect or just to sit, please come down to Cromarty East Church between 10:00 and 16:00. We have 4 places where there are suggestions for contemplation.

A last meal with friends. Today is day five on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail.

Passover is a very significant festival, and the Passover meal as important as Christmas dinner. Jesus really wanted to this one last meal with his friends. In the breaking of bread and pouring wine, Jesus tells his friends that not only is his death imminent but it is a necessary act of love. In dying Jesus will show his love not only for his friends round the table, but for the whole world.

Betrayed for 30 pieces of silver. Today is day four on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail.

How much do you think you are worth? Judas thought Jesus was worth 30 silver coins. Not much for a life, is it? God thinks we’re worth a whole lot more. So much that he gave his son of each and everyone of us. That’s the good news of Easter.

Jesus the teacher. Today is day three on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail.

Despite knowing his life was coming to an end, Jesus still thinks of others and is keen to teach them about life in God’s Kingdom. He answers questions set to trap him with wisdom; always showing God’s love for his hearers.

Turning the tables on greed. Today is day two on the Cromarty Holy Week Trail. Here is the second poster so you know what to look for.

The love of money sullies love for anything else. While it can mess up our relationships with each other, it can also mess up our relationship with God. As Jesus went into the Temple he was angry to find greed and corruption where there should have been worship. He called it out in no uncertain terms.

Our trail starts on Palm Sunday, and Jesus coming into Jerusalem as a king riding a donkey. What a reception he got! People lined the route (as we’d expect for a royal procession). They shouted their welcome, even put their coats on the ground and waved what was to hand – branches from nearby trees. And that’s where we get the name Palm Sunday from. It is a reminder that we should welcome Jesus into our hearts with the same excitement and enthusiasm.
