Hermitage of the Awakened Heart

Hermitage of the Awakened Heart The Hermitage in North Wales is Lama Shenpen’s residence & the sacred hub of practice for the Awakened Heart Sangha.

The Hermitage is Lama Shenpen’s residence where she spends most of her time in retreat and working with her students and on her writing. Daily meditation sessions are broadcast live from the Hermitage, visit https://buddhisthermitage.wales/meditation for details of the timetable and how to connect. As the sacred space at the centre of the mandala, the Hermitage fulfils a vital role in supporting

Lama Shenpen and the senior students who live and practise with her. It is the hub of practice within the Sangha, with meditation and study continuing daily and can accommodate up to 25 people on group retreats, or several solitary retreatants at any one time. The Hermitage is regarded as a sacred space, because of the Dharma practice that takes place there and especially because it has a fully consecrated Stupa containing the relics of many great Buddhist teachers. The relics go back to the Buddha Shakyamuni himself, and include many of the Karmapas as well as HH Khyentse Rinpoche, Trungpa Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche and many others. At its heart is a smaller stupa consecrated by Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche. Lama Shenpen is the principal teacher for her Living the Awakened Heart Training, which is a comprehensive and structured training in Buddhist meditation, reflection and insight. Explore through experiential, spiral learning, some of the most profound Buddhist teachings from the Mahamudra & Dzogchen traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Find out more about the training at www.ahs.org.uk/training

The Hermitage was delighted to welcome to pilgrims to stay with us, where they visited the nearby St Cybi’s sacred well with Lama Tara, and met with Lama Shenpen who answered their questions, and they took part in a light offering at the Enlightenment Stupa. 🙏🕯️✨

Lama Tara will be teaching at our next Sunday Gathering online event on Sunday 28th April, where the subject is Heart Wish and making Pranidhanas (aspirational prayers) in relation to death and dying. Visit www.ahs.org.uk/events for how to register.

As a spiritual community, private residence and sangha retreat centre we’re not open to the public but we can be visited by prior appointment when there aren’t retreats or sangha events taking place. From time to time we do also run local open events, and many of our teaching events can be attended in person.
For information about visiting email [email protected] or visit www.buddhisthermitage.wales

Dr. Karl Brunnhölzl worked for 20 years as a physician and is a Buddhist since 1983. Since 1989, Karl served as a translator, interpreter, and Buddhist teacher.
In 2005, Karl was appointed by - Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche as one of five Western teachers of the Nalandabodhi sangha and received the title “Mitra” (“spiritual friend”). He also teaches weekend seminars and Nitartha Institute courses in Nalandabodhi centers in the USA, Canada, and Mexico as well as other locations.
