Matthew was with us on Sunday, reminding us that if we are Christians, we are new creations in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). That isn't something we do for ourselves, but something God does in us. But we still have responsibilities in how we live our lives.
We often ask the question, "What is God's plan for my life?" There are lots of ways this question can be answered, but one is according to these verses from the end of the sermon on the mount - to live as Jesus directs us.
The sermon on the mount contains many instructions about how Jesus would have us live, including to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16) in the world. The presence or absence of these things is easily noticeable. Is that true of us? Is our presence or absence evident to those we know, not because of us, but because of Jesus in us?

Trevor was preaching for us last Sunday, and shared this verse from Deuteronomy.
He shared how there are some things that God doesn't want us to know - and this may well be a kindness to us, that we don't know all the atrocities in the world, or fully understand what it means to experience hell.
But there are also some things we can find out, some things we will know in the future, and some things we could never find our for ourselves, but God has revealed them to us in His word.
We were encouraged not to let the things we don't understand know us to doubt the things that we do know, especially those things that God has revealed to us.
In particular, He has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel (2 Timothy 1:10), and that is something we can have the utmost confidence in.

Iain challenged us last Sunday with a few questions based on this passage in 1 Peter.
What is the trajectory of your heart? Where are you on Peter's ladder? Are you stationary, or are you progressing?
Living as a Christian requires us to grow and change. We can't do this ourselves, but by His power (v.3), we press on to become greater fanatics for Christ - people whose minds cannot be changed, and who will not change the subject.

We looked at Luke 5 last Sunday, and we saw that Jesus makes all things new.

Specifically, we saw that Jesus gives those who believe in Him a new status (v.17-26) - forgiveness before God, which we receive by faith in Him - a new state (v.12-16) - clean before Him, so that we need no longer feel guilty before Him because of His sacrifice for us on the cross and resurrection from the dead - a new religion (v.33-39) - receiving salvation freely by faith in Jesus rather than trying to earn it ourselves - a new purpose (v.1-11) - to share Him with others and seek to bring them to Him - and a new love (v.27-32) - desiring to give ourselves fully to Him because of the many wonderful things He has done for us.

Have you been made new by Jesus?
