We looked at the start of Jesus' earthly ministry in Luke 4 last Sunday.
We saw how Jesus' priority was preaching and teaching the spiritual truths about God's kingdom, but He also had compassion on all the people He came across, meeting their needs in miraculous ways.
People responded in different ways to this - His hometown hated Him, the demons dreaded Him, the sick sought Him, and the crowds clung to Him.
How are you responding to the ministry of Jesus? Have you accepted Him as your only Saviour from sin? Are you seeking to walk closely with Him? Are you sharing Him with others?

Dave was preaching on 2 Corinthians 4 last Sunday. He challenged us to think about which of the voices we encounter in this world we are allowing ourselves to be influenced by - the god of this world, and all of the earthly concerns we may have, or the God who wants to know us, who knows what is best for us, and who gave Himself for us on the cross, as we are told in the gospel, so that we can know forgiveness, peace with Him and everlasting life.
Which is the bigger driver in your life? Are we living for ourselves and our own earthly desires, or the one who gave His very life for us, and took it up again?

We had Iain with us last Sunday, who exhorted us to raise our gaze beyond the things of this life, to Jesus, who is higher than all our weaknesses, worries, trials, struggles, battles and failures.
Are we gazing on Him by reading His word to get to know more about Him and get to know Him better?

Trevor spoke to us last Sunday about the Lord bringing His people out of horrible pits.
David, who wrote this psalm, didn't tell us what His pit was, but Joseph was thrown in a pit because of family tensions, Jeremiah because he stood for righteousness, Jonah went through the pit of a great fish's belly because he ran away from God, and Paul went through the pit of inner struggles with his sin, as described in Romans 7. But out of all these puts, God delivered them.
What a comfort to know that whatever horrible pits we find ourselves in, God can bring us out, and bring us closer to Himself in the process.

Matthew was with us last Sunday, asking the question, "What Are You Focussed On?"
We looked at four events in the life of Jesus when his disciples focussed on different things.
In Matthew 4, some of the disciples were called to focus on Jesus and follow Him.
In Mark 4, Peter focussed on His circumstances instead, and began to sink in the water on which he had been walking moments earlier.
In Luke 22, some of the disciples were focussed on themselves and their needs, as they slept while Jesus asked them to watch and pray
And in John 21, having died and risen again for us, Jesus prompts Peter to focus on Him again, that his relationship with Jesus might be restored after his earlier denial, and that he might be useful in His service.
Are we focussed on ourselves and our own circumstances, or on Jesus, what He's done for us, and what He wants to do in and theough us?
