St Paul's Catholic College, Burgess Hill, was delighted to welcome MP Alison Bennett to the college last week. St Paul's reports that:‍

"The visit began with Alison meeting Mr Carter, Executive Headteacher, and going on a tour of the College with our Head Students, Rhys and Lily, before finishing up with an engaging question-and-answer session, where KS4 and KS5 students had the opportunity to ask Alison about her role, current political issues, and the work of Parliament. The discussion prompted thoughtful questions and lively debate, showcasing the confidence, curiosity, and political awareness of our students."

"Opportunities such as these help bring politics and public service to life, inspiring students to take an active interest in the world around them."‍

On day seven of our novena we pray for Bishop-elect Stephen and for all the priests and deacons of the Diocese; for those preparing for ministry, for retired and sick clergy, and for all those who have served the people of God in our Diocese.

We pray for those who are young in ministry and those whose years of service are many; for those who are well and those who are struggling; for those who are active in ministry and those whose ministry has become one of prayer and offering.

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of your people,
as Bishop-Elect Stephen prepares
to receive the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders,
give him a shepherd's heart.
May he love every parish entrusted to his care,
know the joys and struggles of your people,
and lead us always closer to you.
Through the intercession of St Philip Howard,
prepare him for his ministry among us. Amen.

On day six of our novena, we pray for Bishop-elect Stephen, for all those who work or volunteer for the Church in our parish and diocesan offices, schools and other places of service, and for those whose work enables the Church's mission.

We give thanks for all who serve in these ways, we pray that their work may be valued and that they may know that their contribution is part of the mission of Christ.

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of your people,
as Bishop-Elect Stephen prepares
to receive the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders,
give him a shepherd's heart.
May he love every parish entrusted to his care,
know the joys and struggles of your people,
and lead us always closer to you.
Through the intercession of St Philip Howard,
prepare him for his ministry among us. Amen.

On the fifth day of our novena, joined in prayer with people across our family of faith, we pray for all the lay faithful of our Diocese: families, young adults, older people, parish volunteers, those who serve publicly, and those whose faithful witness is known only to God.

We pray that every member of our Diocese may know that they have a place in the Church's mission. May our families become schools of prayer and love, and may the lay faithful carry Christ into every part of society.

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of your people,
as Bishop-Elect Stephen prepares
to receive the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders,
give him a shepherd's heart.
May he love every parish entrusted to his care,
know the joys and struggles of your people,
and lead us always closer to you.
Through the intercession of St Philip Howard,
prepare him for his ministry among us. Amen.

On day four of our novena, we pray for the Bishop-elect Stephen and for the Religious who live and serve within our Diocese, for their communities, vocations, apostolates and witness.

The consecrated life is a precious gift to the Church. Through prayer, community and service, Religious women and men bear witness to the Kingdom of God and remind the whole Church that Christ is worth giving everything for.

Lord Jesus, Good Shepherd of your people,
as Bishop-Elect Stephen prepares
to receive the fullness of the sacrament of Holy Orders,
give him a shepherd's heart.
May he love every parish entrusted to his care,
know the joys and struggles of your people,
and lead us always closer to you.
Through the intercession of St Philip Howard,
prepare him for his ministry among us. Amen.
