How we approach God is important. You can't be flippant and expect him to listen to you.

When Nehemiah heard about the terrible state of his nation he took it seriously.
He denied himself food and felt the full emotion and the gravity of the situation before he came to God in prayer.

David learned to know God is such a way that when he was aware of his presence, he knew that he had no reason to fear anything.

The Lord's Prayer ends with a declaration of how great God is, it's a call of triumph that our God is able. We can rest in the knowledge that all we have prayed is in the hands of the all-powerful one. So, let it be.

Rather, base your request on God and his absolute attributes.

We must recognise that God is fully just; he can't just "let people off" of the consequences of disregarding his command...
