Telephone: 01913773658

With an annual budget of just over £135,000 Coxhoe Parish Council delivers relatively few services within the Parish compared to Durham County Council. The Parish Council delivers the following main services:

developing and implementing parish and neighbourhood planning;

representing local people on issues affecting the villages including liaison and lobbying with key public and private bodies;

responding to consultations on applications for planning permission;

providing floral and grass cutting services;

providing a number of allotments in both villages;

supporting local groups to secure local improvements including the provision of small grants;

providing youth services;

maintaining the millennium clocks;

undertaking its statutory duties as a Parish Council including managing its assets and managing its own performance.

Congratulations to Ellie Lowes on her recent appointment as Senior Youth Worker!

Ellie will work alongside our Youth Lead to plan and deliver our award-winning youth service across Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill.

Ellie has been instrumental in the success of our SEN sessions, securing funding from Durham County Council for the third consecutive year. Her knowledge, passion and dedication to this provision particularly stood out to Councillors during the recruitment process. We are delighted to welcome Ellie into this senior role, where she will help guide and shape the future of the service.

With two new Youth Workers also joining the team, we are pleased to have a full complement of skilled staff in place to continue delivering high-quality sessions for local young people.

Look out for the next issue of the Chronicle for further updates.

🌟 Coxhoe Parish Council: A Year of Big Progress! 🌟

There’s been a huge amount happening across Coxhoe and Quarrington Hill this year, from major improvements to youth services and community facilities, to woodland management, drainage works, planning wins, and securing funding for parks, school expansion and local groups.

The Parish Council has:

• Supported over 1,000 Pantry users and secured new youth funding
• Improved Kingswood, village green spaces and countryside paths
• Acquired the Shaun Henderson Sports Ground freehold and pushed forward upgrades
• Installed CCTV on Front Street to boost safety
• Helped secure new classrooms for Coxhoe Primary School
• Delivered major churchyard and drainage improvements
• Worked on neighbourhood planning to protect village identity
• Frozen Council Tax again to support residents during the cost‑of‑living crisis

And there’s much more, including updates on parks, planning, woodland, events, and community partnerships.

We are delighted that Durham County Council have agreed to use financial planning gain (Section 106 funding) from the Barratts Bogma Hall, and Limes Developments, along with a contribution from the schools capital budget to fund the first phase extension of Coxhoe Primary School, to provide 2 additional new classrooms.

Contractors will be starting to set up site during the half term holidays, and school staff will work closely with the contractors next week to create an entry and exit plan based around the compound for drop offs and pick ups.

Information on how to communicate any concerns or comments during the works is attached. Thank you to the community and neighbours for patience and cooperation while these much anticipated improvements to the school are made.
