𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐨𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐠𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 🤍

Before Israel stepped into the promise, they first had to step through uncertainty. Yet God’s greatest assurance to them was not a detailed plan, it was His Presence.

“The Lord Himself goes before you.”

The same God who parted seas, rained manna from heaven, and led them by fire in the night was promising to remain among them.

Sometimes we pray for God to remove the wilderness, while God desires to reveal Himself within it.

Human love can fail. People can change. But covenant love does not move. He will never leave you nor forsake you.

Scripture speaks of the heart as the place where desires are formed, convictions are held, and where our relationship with God is cultivated.

So often we are careful with outward things, yet careless with what quietly enters our inner life. And over time, what is hidden within eventually appears in the way we speak, think and live.

The word of God says “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
What fills the heart will always reveal itself.

Guarding the heart is not about withdrawing from people or living in fear. It is about remaining close to God and sensitive to His voice. David prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” That should be our daily prayer too.

A guarded heart is a surrendered heart. It is a heart that stays soft before God, quick to repent, careful with influences, and rooted in His Word. When we spend time in prayer and Scripture, the Lord teaches us to discern what draws us closer to Him and what slowly pulls us away.

God is not only concerned with outward obedience; He looks deeply at the condition of the heart. And when our hearts are kept in Him, peace, wisdom, and spiritual strength begin to flow into every area of life.

These words come at the end of Jesus’ teaching, where He speaks about the final judgment. People will stand before Him claiming they did many things in His name. They will point to their works, their service, and even spiritual acts. Yet Jesus will reject them.

Why?

Because the issue is not activity, but relationship.

“I never knew you” is not about awareness. In Scripture, knowing means a deep and personal relationship. These were people who looked religious, spoke the right words, and did visible works, but their lives were not truly surrendered to Him.

“Depart from me” is a serious and sobering reality. It shows that outward actions, even impressive ones, are not what save us. A person can appear faithful on the outside and still be far from God.

“Workers of lawlessness” reveals the core issue. They lived in disobedience while still associating themselves with His name. Their lives did not reflect His will.

This confronts us directly.

Not everyone who says “Lord, Lord” belongs to Christ. He is not looking for words alone, but for hearts that love Him and lives that obey Him.

In Luke 10:38-42, Jesus calls us to focus on “𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖇𝖊𝖙𝖙𝖊𝖗 𝖕𝖆𝖗𝖙”- the one thing that can never be taken away.

“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him.
She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.
But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”. “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed-or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

While Martha was busy and distracted by many tasks, Mary made a courageous choice: she sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to His words.

Sitting at the Lord’s feet is more than a physical posture - it is the attitude of a heart that seeks Jesus above all else.

During this time, women were not given the opportunity to study Scripture or to sit at a rabbi’s feet. Their roles included serving and managing the household. Mary’s decision to sit at Jesus’ feet was bold and something that was not seen as normal during that time.
She sat at a place that was reserved for male disciples who wanted to learn from their teacher.

Martha was “distracted by all the preparations,” and her mind pulled in many directions. In her frustration, she even questioned whether Jesus cared about her burden.

Yet, while Martha was distracted, Mary was fully present-listening to Jesus’ every word. She placed herself at the most important place anyone could be: at the feet of Jesus. Mary chose to set aside distractions to focus on what mattered most-hearing from the Lord Himself.

Jesus gently pointed out that Martha’s distractions kept her from the “one thing needed.” The “better part” Mary chose was about prioritising relationship and spiritual nourishment above all else.

💭Do we take time to truly listen to Him and sit at His feet?

Why Is Sitting at Jesus’ Feet Important?

At Jesus’ feet, we receive His truth and His love. Only here can our hearts and minds be renewed (Romans 12:2).

It is a place of intimacy. Sitting at His feet draws us close, allowing us to hear His voice above the noise of life (John 10:27).

It is a place of surrender. We lay aside our worries and self-sufficiency, acknowledging that what we need most is only found in Him (Psalm 46:10).

“𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐡𝐞𝐫.”

Let us draw near to Jesus, sitting attentively at His feet, eager to hear His voice and receive His wisdom, undistracted by the noise of the world.
