The tragic death of Professor Jason Arday leaves family, friends and colleagues grieving, and reminds us how devastating despair can become. As questions and accusations pile up, like blocks in a Jenga tower, the whole structure can become dangerously unstable. Whatever the truth, Christian faith calls us to honesty, compassion and truthfulness—because lies destroy trust, damage people and ultimately end in collapse.

This week’s discovery of Blenheim Palace’s long-hidden parterre reminded me how pressure reveals what lies beneath the surface. Just as drought uncovers forgotten history, life’s pressures expose our true character. James encourages us to be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger, reflecting the heart God desires.
