👑 Christ the King of Scotland 👑

This beautiful painting of Christ the King receiving the Honours of Scotland was commissioned by Father Michael Mary of the monastery on Papa Stronsay in the Orkney Isles.

The artwork portrays the Royal Child emerging from the darkness, mystery and mist of the Scottish Highlands in all His majesty and beauty. Clothed in the Royal Stuart Tartan and wearing the Crown of Scotland, the Christ Child sits upon the historic Stone of Scone, the ancient coronation stone of Scotland’s monarchs.

With His hand raised in blessing and bearing the marks of His Passion, He reveals His Sacred Heart – the supreme sign of His love and the fullness of His Kingship. The Cross rests at His side, while the misty Highlands and the Royal Scottish Standard complete this striking vision of Christ reigning as King.

A powerful reminder that above every earthly kingdom stands the eternal Kingdom of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

The leadup to today’s opening of Disclosure Day has been quite an exercise in hype, hasn’t it?

Coinciding with peaking interest in what old people call UFOs (now “UAPs”), and government declassification of some records concerning same, the movie seems to have caught the crest of a massive cultural wave that it will surely ride all the way to the pleasant shoreline of Cash Beach.

Director Steven Spielberg has masterfully nurtured that connection with a series of interviews that seem to treat his movie as a documentary rather than a bit of summerweight popcorn fiction. Indeed, his musings about the effect of alien “disclosure” on human society and on religious belief have led to speculation that he is part of a master plan to soften up humanity for a coming real-life alien revelation—or maybe a still-more sinister purpose.

However, if you connect the dots in Spielberg's filmography, there emerges a clear picture of a man trying to heal his God-wound with his imagination. One theme that emerges repeatedly is that of parental loss combined with (and often healed by) the intervention of powerful other-worldly figures exercising, in God’s apparent absence, divine agency. Disclosure Day will likely be part of the same pattern.

The Sacred Heart reminds us of Christ’s boundless love, mercy and compassion for all people. As Catholic men committed to faith, family and service, we seek to reflect that love in our communities and in our daily lives.

On this special feast day, let us entrust ourselves, our families, our clergy, and all those in need to the loving Heart of Jesus.
