This week is Volunteers Week 2026, our hearts are full of gratitude and tinged with sadness. We want to honour two extraordinary volunteers who have passed away this year – Donald Hamilton and Winston Collier. Yesterday Winston's funeral took place, and so we wanted to dedicate this first post to him.

Winston dedicated decades to our Schools Team, sharing the magic of the Cathedral with thousands of schoolchildren. He was also co-creator of our beloved Blitz Museum – a project he created alongside his late son Andrew and Michael Coleman. Those who knew Winston spoke of his endless patience and his remarkable ability to see the best in everyone.

Winston, you have left an indelible mark on Coventry Cathedral and on all of us. Thank you for everything. You will be incredibly missed.

Watch an interview with Winston for the Royal British Legion in 2025 as part of a docu-drama for Primary School Children on his experience of the Blitz. (The video can be found under 'I’ll Remember Primary Docu-Drama’ at 10.30 minutes): https://www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/teaching-remembrance/ve-and-vj-day-teaching-resources?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=teaching_remembrance&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7umtKLZYx-6ixWLWDvVaxO51VQC&gclid=Cj0KCQjwlMfABhCWARIsADGXdy-ng-fbMryNOhLQep82okPZxgFaRY0vBNShG9DBW4NOFaa90rqmJp8aAhN0EALw_wcB

Tomorrow we reopen our Tower climb! Please take note of the below as it’s going to be a hot weekend!
We’re open Saturday to Bank Holiday Monday this weekend, then regular Saturdays and Sundays, weather permitting.
Our opening times are 11am-3pm with last entry at 2.45pm.
There are 180 stone steps in our spiral staircase, well worth the climb for the spectacular views from the top!
We hope to see you soon! ☀️

As it looks to be a scorcher this Bank Holiday and half-term we want everyone to have an enjoyable and comfortable visit, so here are a few things to bear in mind if you’re visiting us over the week ahead.

☀️ There is very little shade in the Ruins to please make sure you are wearing adequate sunscreen and/or a hat.
☀️ Unfortunately we do not have any on-site catering facilities so please make sure you bring your own water or soft drink, however we are next door to both the Herbert Art Gallery Cafe and St Mary's Guildhall's Tales of Tea.
☀️ If you start to feel unwell during your time here please alert a member of staff as soon as possible.

More information about keeping safe in the sun can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/seasonal-health/sunscreen-and-sun-safety/

Adam Wood, one of our Blitz Museum Guides, has quite recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 terminal cancer. Typically, Adam’s response to this has been to throw himself into helping and supporting others. He created a podcast to raise awareness of prostate cancer and provide a platform for easy, informal (and often humorous) discussion and decided to lose all his locks pre-chemotherapy for a Brave the Shave fundraiser for Macmillan Support, which as of today has already raised a mighty £1700.

If you would like to donate, no matter how small the amount is, you can do so here: https://bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk/Shavers/afc6b7ef-165a-464f-8809-78cfbd9ae666
