Abba Father
Luke 11:2-4
So He said to them, “When you pray, say:
Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins,
For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one.”
“Abba” is the defining term for father in the Aramaic language, spoken by Jesus and Paul as an intimate term to characterise their personal relationships with God. Something amazing happens in your spirit when you see God as your Father.
Romans 8:15-16
“For you did not receive the spirit of bo***ge again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,”
Fatherhood is a relational and testimony about a child’s trust in their father. To the Jews, Abba is the most intimate way in which you can address your father.
It’s a beautiful picture to behold of the truth that through Jesus you have received the Spirit of sonship by whom you can now cry out “Abba, Father.” Did you notice that the Holy Spirit kept the original Aramaic word “Abba”
You may intellectually know you’re saved, but the Spirit of Christ gives you the experience of sonship.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you live out of your identity.
When doubts come, remind yourself: “The Spirit Himself testifies I am a child of God.”
Many are going through unnecessary struggles and eating pig’s food like the prodigal son, whilst your Father has more than enough to satisfy all. “Don’t create a distant relationship with your Heavenly Father. Connect with Him by spending quality time everyday. Start sharing your love and fears with Him as you would with your own father.
I pray your mind be renewed by the revelation of this truth, and see God as your Abba Father, until then, you will have the “spirit of bo***ge again to fear” (Rom. 8:15), This scripture refers to the Old Testament fear of God. It’s a slavish fear of judgment and punishment that brings you into bo***ge and makes you afraid of God. Sons’ abides in the house. A child doesn’t knock nervously to enter their parent’s house, they run in with freedom. That’s how God wants you to approach Him. He that the Son has make free is free indeed. Amen!
