In the 30th anniversary year of the appearance of the Spice Girls on the popular music scene, we present 'WANNABE' - their debut single - cleverly crafted in the form of an intricate English Madrigal. Madrigals were secular part-songs which flourished in the Renaissance and early Baroque eras. Bringing the 14th century to a 20th century song and recording it in the 21st century - never let it be said that music stands still.

Recorded live by our very own 'Old Spice' in Holy Trinity Church Arena as part of their sellout tour of the Clement Chapel, Lady Chapel, Font and Tower Toilet.

Wow! Another Heritage Open Days festival has come to an end at Holy Trinity Church and what a finale, with a full church on Sunday morning. It was lovely to see so many families and the children of Holy Trinity School who rounded off this morning's service with their clear singing and tribute to those who died in two World Wars.
There are so many in the team to thank for making the event happen:
all the volunteer stewards who gave up their weekends to meet, greet and guide all the visitors, the catering team and church cake makers ably led by Jill Cruse, the hardworking bell ringers who gave so much effort and the fabulous Marcia Dieppe who spoke tirelessly to group after group - they are the stars of our open days, as it is so rare these days to have a full team of ringers. Then there were our Friends of Cookham Abbey whose display about the Saxon monastery has generated so much interest and which is still in the church for those who missed it. Thank you, too, to Holy Trinity School, to Miss Smith, their art club, the teachers, the children who spoke and sang so well, and especially the parents who gave up a precious Sunday morning to come and join in, to Andra in the office for practical input and Charlotte Leys for the new children's History Detectives' guide. Phew! Then there was the wonderful music, co -ordinated by Sara and Vicky Wood - thank you to them and the choristers' mums and the men's and boys choirs. Lastly to Father Stephen for allowing the church to be completely re arranged, and to the 200 + visitors who came from all over the world to see and learn about our lovely church.

We had a great start to Heritage Open Days 2026 on Saturday, with a steady stream of visitors coming through the door. Most people had come from a 10 mile radius, but our most distant visitors were from Canada and Australia, and it was lovely to welcome people who had a connection with us having grown up in the village or married in the church.
Did you miss us? We're open again on Saturday 19th, so it's not too late to find out about Cookham's Saxon monastery, see the Anchoress or discover our connections with spices and sweeties. All that will make anyone thirsty, so we have refreshments available, too, for humans and dogs, and don't forget children have drop in activities to enjoy.
Music lovers - check out our services on Sunday 20th (10.00 and 5.30) which will feature church music through the centuries from our choirs led by our musical director

At Holy Trinity we're looking forward to our special open day on Saturday 12th September as part of the international HERITAGE OPEN DAYS FESTIVAL. This year we're focussing on the characters that have been part of our church, and there will be displays from the Friends of Cookham Abbey, the bell ringers, and a variety of other things to see. Come and join us for coffee & cakes. There are plenty of activities for children and dogs are welcome to come along.
You're busy this weekend?
Not a problem, as we're doing it all again the following weekend (19th).

Marta Keen wrote 'Homeward Bound' for "a loved one who was embarking upon a new phase of life's journey, to express the soul's yearning to grow and change'.

September presents changes for many people - starting school, moving school, moving on to University and work in the 18+ world, starting new jobs. Sung by Holy Trinity Church Girls' & Men's Choir, we offer this beautiful arrangement by Jay Althouse for everyone experiencing changes to their lives at the moment - whether chosen or put upon them. Specifically related to the Choir, we dedicate it to Alex and Josh. They have been members of the choir since joining as 7 year old boys and this month marks their departure for studies and work beyond school. It is a special thing to maintain dedicated membership of a church choir right through to the necessity of leaving for university.

As September moves in and Autumn is well and truly beckoning, we hope you might enjoy a short time of calm. Thank you to Marta Keen for writing it, Jay Althouse for arranging it, and the choristers for recording it - some of whom have, very luckily for us, been able to stay with the choir as they have entered the world of work and further study.
