WANTED!!

A calm, friendly, and dependable minibus driver to help bring people safely to and from Minsteracres.

No racing lines needed. No rally-stage ambition required.
Just steady hands, a kind spirit, and someone who doesn’t mind the occasional “Northumberland adventure” on the road.

Think peaceful journeys, not pedal-to-the-metal chaos.

YOU’LL NEED:

A valid licence for driving a minibus ( D1)
Confidence on the road
Reliability
A helpful, friendly approach
Bonus points for a good sense of humour!

YOU’LL BE DOING:

Driving guests, volunteers and groups
Helping people arrive safely for retreats and events
Being part of the Minsteracres welcome team
Enjoying some very nice Northumberland views while you’re at it

Meet Holly, our new Head of Outreach.

Holly has spent her career walking alongside people in some of life's most challenging moments — from community development in Newcastle's West End, to supporting refugees and asylum seekers, to holding space as a trained end-of-life doula and birth companion.

She first came to Minsteracres as a volunteer, helping to lay the original hedge around our Peace Garden. Something took root. She's been delivering garden therapy and wellbeing sessions here for five or six years, and recently stepped into the Head of Outreach role — taking the baton from the wonderful Liz Holmes, who has given so much to this place and is now enjoying a well-earned retirement.

"There's a really strong familiar sense for me here. It's a space given over to service, where people are living and working together."

We're glad she's home.

A big apology to Andy our Estate Manager. In our last post about the walled garden, we somehow managed to crop his head clean off — which, given everything he's putting into the place, was rather poor form on our part.

Here he is properly: head, shoulders and all, back among the espalier apples. Thanks for being a good sport, Andy.

Behind the old stone wall at Minsteracres, something rather lovely is happening.

Estate Manager Andy and the team are bringing the walled kitchen garden back to its original 1850s layout — chemical-free, no-dig, completely organic. Onions, tomatoes, strawberries, espalier apples… even a few rather grumpy bees keeping it all pollinated.

We hope, one day, you'll be able to wander it just as visitors did in the Silvertop family's day. For now though, the garden is closed to visitors while all the work goes on.

"The Eucharist is the heart of our faith — far more than a weekly obligation."

Across the weekend of 17–19 July, Mary Robinson leads a Eucharistic Retreat at Minsteracres exploring the Real Presence of Christ through the twin lenses of theology and art.
The weekend reflects on the Mass as sacrifice, the long history of Eucharistic miracles, and the witness of St Carlo Acutis — the young Italian saint who catalogued those miracles and made them visible to a new generation.

The shape of the weekend is contemplative as well as catechetical: theological input, art and imagery, daily Mass, and dedicated periods of Adoration. Past attendees have described the sessions as "thought-provoking" and "inspirational" — and have found them genuinely helpful even when faith has felt distant.
