Today a special votive Mass is said by Passionists, as their calendar honours various aspects of Our Lord’s Passion.

Today they remember “Christ condemned to death.” After Pontius Pilate’s conversation with Jesus, he found nothing deserving death, but he bowed to the pressure of the High Priests and the crowd, calling insistently for his death. They preferred the release of a notorius prisoner, Barabbas, to the Prince of Life and Pilate washed his hands of him, handing him over.

Today may we be mindful of those condemned falsely, around the world.

There's still time to join us on the trail.

Our Walking Retreat on Thursday the 17th September is a day to breathe, to pray, and to walk gently through the "cathedral of the outdoors" on the ancient land of the Northern Saints. Between seven and ten miles of rolling countryside, with intentional pauses to listen to the whispers of creation.

No rushing. No noise. Just your stride, the open sky, and the quiet company of others walking the same path.

August 26th is the Memorial of Blessed Dominic Barberi, Passionist Priest (1792-1849).

A humble Italian Passionist priest, who, like St Paul of the Cross, had a burning desire for the conversion of England. In1845 Dominic went to visit John Henry Newman at Oxford, and famously received Newman into the Catholic Church, Some time later Newman wrote about meeting Dominic: “I was moved to the depths in the strangest way. His very look had about it something holy.” On Monday we are joining the annual pilgrimage to his shrine at St Helen’s. Blessed Dominic Barberi, pray for England.

On Saturday, the Feast of the Assumption, a good number of you joined us at Minsteracres for our Rosary Rally. The day began with Mass at noon, followed by the Rosary itself, and closed with Benediction.

It was everything we had hoped for — prayerful and unhurried, but sociable too. Packed lunches shared in the grounds, conversation between the decades, and the peace of an August afternoon at Minsteracres doing the rest.

Our thanks to everyone who travelled to be with us, to the Minsteracres team who led the day, and to all who prayed with us in honour of Mary, Mother of God.

A retreat at Minsteracres feels like a mini holiday — a spiritual bath.

Our recent Eucharistic Retreat explored sacred art, the sacrifice of the Mass, eucharistic miracles and quiet adoration.

As retreat leader Mary put it: "Be quiet. Let Jesus get a word in edgeways."
