At a time when your church faces extensive and expensive remedial works to be carried out, we are looking at non expensive ways of making your donations go even further, and the simplest way to do this, providing you are a UK taxpayer, is to Gift Aid the contributions you are making.

Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities to claim extra money on donations by UK taxpayers, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE DONOR.

Have we caught your attention with those last words! When you choose to add Gift Aid to your donation, your gift is increased by 25%. This means that for every £1 you donate, the church can claim an additional 25p from HM Revenue & Customs, so your donation is worth more to the church without costing you anything extra.

How does it work I hear you ask! When you donate to a UK Charity and complete a Gift Aid declaration, the charity can claim back basic rate of Income Tax (20%) that you’ve already paid on that money. So for example, if you donate £20, we can claim an extra £5. A £100 donation becomes £125. None of this COSTS YOU A PENNY.

All you have to do to qualify is to be a UK taxpayer and have paid Income Tax or Capital Gains Tax of at least the amount that we would be claiming back.

There’s also a benefit to you too if you are a higher rate taxpayer, because you can claim back the difference between the basic rate of tax and the rate you pay through your Self AssessmentReturn, so that means we both benefit.

Gift Aid is one of the simplest and most effective ways to support your church, and as already pointed out, costs you absolutely nothing. Looking at contributions over the past few years, we could be losing thousands of pounds annually, which could be put to good use by your church committee and make financial commitments so much easier to manage. If you’ve read this far and tick the conditions for eligibility and haven’t yet Gift Aided your donations, then get in touch ASAP and we can discuss and clarify things with you directly and hopefully alleviate any concerns you may have. Sounds too good to be true that it won’t cost you anything, but it really is true and can really maximise what you are already donating, so contact us without further delay to get the ball rolling 😊

The Harvest Thanksgiving Services offer us the opportunity to pause and reflect on our dependence upon God. It is also a powerful reminder to us of the importance of looking after our neighbours and those who are in need throughout the world. Hope to see as many of you as possible at both services next week and visitors are very welcome to join us.
