He is risen! Give thanks this Easter Sunday for the resurrection of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. ✝️

Happy Saint Patrick’s Day from the Officers and Brethren of 1037!

Born in Roman Britain, Patrick was kidnapped and brought to Ireland as a slave. He later escaped, and returned to Ireland to preach to the “pagan barbarians” and convert the population to Christianity.

A quote from St Patrick;

“Never before did they know of God except to serve idols and unclean things. But now, they have become the people of the Lord, and are called the children of God…”

The motto of The Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick (British Order of Chivalry - King Charles III is Sovereign of the Order) “Quis Separabit?”

Goldsprings of Comber LOL 1037 held our annual Installation of Officers on 16/01/2026 in Comber Orange Hall.

On the evening our newly installed Worshipful Master, William Graham, was presented with a portrait of himself and his late grandfather Worshipful Brother James Marshall PDM by Worshipful Brothers Chris Brooks & Neil Dines on behalf of the lodge. We all wish our Worshipful Master every success for 2026.

On the evening, 3 brethren were presented with 50 Year Service jewels and certificates - Worshipful Brothers John Corken, Harry Cooper and Brian Finlay. We congratulate the brethren for their outstanding service to the lodge and wish them many more happy years amongst their brethren. It was noted with great sadness that Worshipful Brother Ken McBriar, who passed away in May 2025, should also have been receiving his jewel.

Following the conclusion of the meeting, the brethren were very well fed and watered by Lily of the Valley Catering Corps - a stellar job as always. We again pass on our immense thanks to them for looking after us in such a great manner.

Thanks must also go to Comber District LOL 15 and visiting brethren for helping us conduct our installation, always greatly appreciated and once again the duties were performed to a superb standard.

It was superb to see a packed lodge room, a great evening full of fraternity and fellowship and the brethren are now looking ahead to 2026.

Another great Comber man gone. 💔

Beautiful words shared from Goldsprings True Defenders Flute Band - Comber.

It is with the deepest of sympathy and heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of one of our original members, from when the band was founded back in 1985, Stephen "Coops" Cooper. 💔

Coops was a dedicated member from the very beginning of Goldsprings True Defenders, and even after stepping into his role as a local councillor, he never stopped supporting us — always offering encouragement, and a helping hand whenever we needed it.
If you bumped into him in the North Down for a quick pint before a parade, he would have always asked, "Where's the band out tonight?" Followed by "go and light 'er up."

Our community has lost a true Comber man, and we will all feel his absence deeply. His kindness, friendship and love for the people around him will continue to inspire us for years to come.

Coops, thank you for everything. You will be profoundly missed, but your legacy will forever remain in our ranks, our hearts, and our community.

Goldsprings True Defenders would like to send our deepest sympathy and wish the utmost peace, comfort and love at this time of sorrow to Coops' entire family circle and closest friends.

We can't begin to imagine, or even try to put in to words the hurt and sorrow they must be feeling at this extremely difficult time.

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted"

20/11/2025

Today marks 42 years since the Darkley Gospel Hall massacre (20 November 1983).

On this solemn anniversary, we remember with grief but also with gospel hope the three believers who lost their lives that night—Harold Brown, David Wilson, and Victor Cunningham. They were serving the Lord in a humble Gospel Hall, a place where Christ was lifted up and the Scriptures were faithfully preached. Their witness did not end with their deaths; it continues to speak today.

As evangelical Protestants, we stand firmly on the same foundation they loved and proclaimed:
the authority of the Word of God, salvation by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone, and the calling to live as disciples who shine His light in a dark world.

The attack at Darkley was meant to silence worship, to instill fear, and to intimidate a community gathered around the gospel. But the gospel of Jesus Christ is not silenced by violence. It is the power of God unto salvation (Romans 1:16), and it continues to change lives in Northern Ireland and across the world.

Today we honour the memory of those who died by reaffirming the faith they held:

Christ alone is Lord and Saviour.

The Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God.

The gospel is the only hope for sinful humanity.

The church must remain faithful, prayerful, and courageous.

We pray:

For ongoing comfort for the families and survivors.

For the church to stand uncompromisingly on the truth of the gospel.

For many to come to know the saving grace of Christ—the message Darkley Gospel Hall existed to proclaim.

May the Lord use even memories of tragedy to draw hearts to Himself, and may we remain faithful to the evangelical Protestant witness that those brothers cherished unto death.

“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” —John 1:5
