Presbyterian Women - January Reading Challenge 1st January 2026
💜Welcome to 2026! We want to wish you a very Happy New Year! Let’s start the new year studying God’s Word together💜📖.
Rebecca McConnell ( INSPIRE Editor) introduces this month’s reading challenge:
'We are delighted to introduce the fourth Presbyterian Women January Reading Challenge to kick start the New Year. We pray this study will help us as, with God’s grace, we enter 2026 together focused on God’s Word.
Our theme verse for God … ever present is found in Psalm 46:1, so we have decided to spend time in one of the Bible’s most beloved and comforting books, the Psalms. We have laid out a plan to read and reflect on different Psalms over the 31 days of January. They are not in order, so keep an eye on the planner to direct you. Each Psalm has been chosen as it contains reminders of the presence of God. The selection also highlights themes like God's nearness, his guidance, comfort, protection, and the joy of being in his presence.
Psalms is one of only two Old Testament books to identify itself as a composite work containing multiple authors - Proverbs, which we studied in our first ever January Reading Challenge, is the other. Some psalms name their author in the first line or title, for example, Moses wrote Psalm 90. David was responsible for many of them, composing seventy-three psalms.
The book of Psalms expresses worship. Throughout its many pages, Psalms encourages its readers to praise God for who he is and what he has done. You may like to extend your quiet time by finding the Psalm you are studying that day as a song on YouTube or Spotify, and either listening or singing along to it.
For days when there are shorter Psalms, why not read it over more than once and try to recite a key verse or two off by heart so you can bring them to mind when you are driving, walking or out shopping. You could also write out a verse on a post it note and leave somewhere prominent in your home or car to be a daily reminder of God’s presence with you.
We are grateful to Alison Soye Alison Soye Illustration for producing the beautiful illustration of the stained-glass window to keep us on track as we navigate our time in the Psalms.'
