Last Saturday (9th March) we held a lovely Wine & Cheese evening in St Andrews Church. We were delighted that nearly 50 people from the Colebrooke community fought their way through wind and rain to join us in Church; this was an excellent turn-out. Everyone enjoyed the warming wine and wonderful spread of cheeses and fresh bread served up by the Parochial Church Council.

Our special thanks go to John Richards who assembled a talented group of local musicians to provide background entertainment and atmosphere. The wide range of music brought the evening alive and was much appreciated by all.

This was our first fundraising event for the year and we are very pleased with the successful outcome. Thank you all for your support; we hope you all enjoyed the evening.

We intend to hold various events in the Church throughout the year. Please watch this space for future events and do feel free to share our page with friends an neighbours who might wish to join us in the future.

Tomorrows service (17th March 2024) will be Morning Prayer from 9.30am; you would be most welcome to join us.

Activities in 2024 in St Andrews

At a recent service, the vicar reminded us that St Andrews has been in Colebrooke as a place of worship since the 1200s. For over 800 years the Church has provided a place of peace, prayer and perhaps even sanctuary for the residents of Colebrooke Parish.

And the Church remains available to all members of our Community for all of these things and, of course, the occasional wedding, christening, funeral and bell ringing tournament. The PCC encourages everyone to use the Church for a wide variety of events and activities, and are developing ideas to turn it into a more flexible and usable space.

Of course, maintaining the Church costs money and it is important that we keep up with our fundraising activities. The PCC has just drafted a programme of events for this year which we hope will be of interest to everyone in the Parish and beyond.

To kick off the year, we will organise a wine and cheese evening in March; hopefully this will brighten up an otherwise dull winter's evening. Then in May we are planning a musical evening, hopefully with a well known West Country folk musician and a licensed bar. July will see the return of the Fete and Dog Show, which proved to be a great hit last year, at least amongst the dogs! In early Autumn we are considering a flower festival and harvest celebration, and later in November a refreshed Craft Fair to give you an opportunity to stock up on Christmas cards and gifts.

We will always welcome other ideas and thoughts on how we might make the most of our Church.

Your PCC

Village Harvest Celebrations

Come and celebrate our village harvest thanksgiving on Friday September 29th. This is an important occasion for the country community. Donations of produce may be brought to the church and will be donated to a charity. An ecumenical service will take place in church at 7 P.M. to be conducted by Rev’d Robert Gordon. All will be most welcome with a supper to follow in the Village Hall.

The Harvest Holy Communion service will be held at 9.30 a.m. on Sunday October 1st. Everyone will be most welcome.

St Andrew's Church Colebrooke Dog Show - 8th July 2023 from 11am

The Dog Show will start with registrations at 11 o’clock on the Amenity Area. Fun classes will include: the Waggiest Tail; the Dog the Judge would like to take Home; Best Trick; Best Young Handler; Retrieve the Sausage; Catch the Sausage; and Best in Show. Classes will run until 1 o’clock. Pulled pork baps will be served in the Church at 1 o’clock.

Also from 11 o’clock, there will be all the usual exciting Fete stalls and a Raffle in the Church and a Guess the Weight of the Lamb stand in the Churchyard. Hot and cold drinks, and cakes, will be available in the Church for the whole period. The Raffle will be drawn at 1350 hours in the Church.

The Amenity Area will be very busy throughout the day. Please park safely elsewhere in the village, or park in the paddock on the corner by the footpath gate (it will be signposted). Please take care when crossing roads and keep your dog on a lead at all times except when competing in a class when you may be invited to let them go free for a while. Dogs may accompany you in the Church so you can visit the Fete activities and stalls.

We are grateful to our sponsors for their valuable support: Jonathan Wood Vets (for help with the Dog Show), the New Inn (for the sausages!) and others for contributing raffle prizes. “
