Cockburnspath and Cove

Cockburnspath and Cove Welcome to the vibrant community of Cockburnspath & Cove situated on the east coast of the Scottish Borders. The Village today is small but busy!

For more information on our village, please visit our website: www.copathandcove.com Cockburnspath is a beautiful and small community situated on the east coast of the Scottish Borders. We are on the border between East Lothian and the Borders and are ideally positioned between Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh in the north and the historic town of Berwick - Upon - Tweed in the south. We are a

coastal village which is popular with many tourists and surfers. We have the stunning coastline as well as being a short distance from the John Muir Way. Cockburnspath is the end of the popular Southern Upland Way beginning in Portpatrick in the West and concluding right here, in Cockburnspath. From Cockburnspath the John Muir Way can be followed for around 9 miles along the East Lothian coast to Dunbar for anyone wanting to catch a train. The area of Cockburnspath has many archeological remains which indicate it has been lived and fought over since the Bronze Age. It lies close to the old invasion route from England into Scotland. The name of our village has changed since even earlier that 1128! Cockburnspath was initially called Kolbrandr, where the name has changed to what it is known as now (Cockburnspath) and most commonly known as Co'path. Cockburnspath was very much a place where people worked the land, traded it and forfeited it as well as building upon it. This is still commonly some activities in Cockburnspath with farms surrounding the village and having estates in the imminent geography. The village has many events and projects taking place all year round including our Community Cafe, Gala Day, Annual Flower Show, Coffee Mornings, Computer Workshops, Art Exhibitions, Meditation, Worship and so much more. We have great facilities including our Village Hall, Primary School, Village Store, Bowling Club, Church, Church Hall and Football Field. Cove is a natural harbour which was improved in 1831 by the building of a break water. The harbour is privately owned. The village of Cove has been described as having more of a Cornish than Scottish air about it. Cove is largely homes and holiday homes with Pease Bay Leisure Park nearby and Cockburnspath just under one mile away. Nearby beaches include Pease Bay and Thornton Loch which are both great for surfing. A Huge Thank You to Our Volunteers – The Heart of Sea Cadets

This week, we want to recognise and thank every single volunteer across our District who gives their time, skills, passion and commitment to supporting the Sea Cadet movement.

Whether you are a Uniformed Volunteer, Civilian Instructor, Trustee, Unit Management Team member, or support volunteers behind the scenes, your contribution is invaluable. Every parade night, training session, boating activity, fundraising event, committee meeting and administrative task helps create opportunities that positively shape the lives of young people throughout our communities.

Because of your dedication, cadets gain confidence, develop leadership skills, learn teamwork, make lifelong friendships and experience activities that many would never otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy. The impact you make extends far beyond the unit doors and helps develop the next generation of responsible, capable and resilient young people.

A special thank you also to our District Team, whose hard work, commitment and support help our units continue to have the support to thrive and provide the very best opportunities for our cadets and volunteers alike.

As we look to the future, all of our units across the District are currently seeking new volunteers to join their teams. You do not need previous military experience, maritime knowledge or specialist qualifications – just enthusiasm, commitment and a desire to make a difference.

Volunteering with Sea Cadets offers so many benefits, including:

⚓ Making a real difference in young people's lives
⚓ Learning new skills and gaining qualifications
⚓ Developing leadership and instructional experience
⚓ Building friendships and becoming part of a fantastic team
⚓ Supporting your local community
⚓ Taking part in exciting activities and events
⚓ Personal development and increased confidence

Whether you can give a few hours a week, help occasionally, or take on a more regular role, there is a place for you within the Sea Cadet family.

If you've ever thought about volunteering, now is the perfect time to get involved. Together, we can continue providing life-changing opportunities for young people across our District.

To find out more about volunteering opportunities, please get in touch with your local Sea Cadet unit or contact the District Team.

Your time changes lives. Your support matters. Your volunteering makes a difference.

What an amazing achievement by those who brought this amazing landmark to life over the past three months - a fitting tribute to the Father of Geology, right here on our doorstep!
If you've never been I highly encourage you to go and see!

Celebrations took place in Cockburnspath following the launch of the Deep Time Trail, an accessible gateway for locals and visitors to explore Siccar Point.

This locally and historically significant landmark, which played a role in the development of 'deep time' theory, challenging centuries of accepted wisdom and transforming our scientific understanding of the Earth.

The Co'path & Cove Community Fund awarded £72,500 to support the regeneration and you can read more about how working closely with a grantee and trusting them to deliver helped bring a project of international significance to a small East Berwickshire community 👉 https://tinyurl.com/yc4hyvyf

A thank you from a dog walker:

Thank you to the person who picked up my dogs poo this morning around 8.30am at the top of Callander Place, next to the field. I accidently came out without any bags and by the time I had gone to the shop to buy some and got back, someone had picked it up, thank you!

Cockburnspath Primary School Playground:

We have recently had a few incidents were children (both who attend the school and those who do not) have been coming into the playground after school and at weekends and climbing onto the shed roof.

Members of the local community have kindly brought this to our attention, as they are understandably concerned that someone could be seriously hurt if they were to fall through the roof.

We have also noticed children attempting to get into the smaller shed where our loose parts are stored, as well as climbing into the nursery garden to play.

Please could we ask parents and carers to remind children to be mindful and respectful if they are entering the school playground outside of school hours. Please note, access to the nursery play area and the climbing on the roofs is strictly off limits.

Thank you for your support and cooperation in helping us keep everyone safe and protect our school environment.
