From Lorraine... (Thanks as always Lorraine!)
Hello Everyone,
We have enjoyed some warm sunny weather recently which is always a pleasant surprise as we approach Autumn.
I regularly meet with a friend for lunch in Glasgow but we decided on Monday since it was a lovely day that we would have a change of scene and go to the seaside.
We went by bus to Prestwick which is a short fifty minute journey from Buchanan Street Bus Station unless you get on the wrong bus which I presume takes the scenic route as it takes over two hours !!
On arrival in Prestwick we had breakfast, a wander along the main street and then a leisurely stroll to the beach where everyone was enjoying the sunshine.
There were people walking their dogs, others were chatting and eating in the beach cafe and of course the obligatory ice cream cones were being enjoyed by many which made the long queue worthwhile.
Looking out to sea was wonderfully calming and reminds me of the wonder of God's Creation as I watched and heard the lapping waves as they reached the shore.
Genesis 1 9/10 NIV
And God said "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear" and it was so. God called the dry ground "land" and the gathered waters he called "seas". And God saw that it was good.
Jesus often spent time at the seashore, he would preach to the crowds there.
Luke 5:1 NIV
One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, the people were crowding around him and listening to the word of God.
It was where he asked the brothers Simon (who would be called Peter) and Andrew the fishermen to follow him.
Matthew 4:19 NIV "Come, follow me" Jesus said and
"I will send you out to fish for people ".
Jesus even surprised his friends by sharing breakfast with them by the Sea of Galilee
John 21 12/14 NIV
Jesus said to them "Come and have breakfast" none of them dared ask him "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord.
Jesus came, took the bread, and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.
This was now the third time Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
Can you imagine having breakfast with Jesus by the side of the water, how wonderful would that be ?
Yet we share a special meal with Jesus every time we celebrate Communion, friends of Jesus gathered together to remember a meal he shared with his friends.
Wherever you find a place of calm whether it is by the sea, in the countryside or in your home with family and friends be assured Jesus is there too.
Our Saviour, the one who walked on water, walks beside us through the ebb and flow of life.
When you feel you are floundering and all at sea, trust in the Lord to bring you safely to shore and give you peace.
John 6 19/21 NIV
When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus approaching the boat, walking on the water; and they were frightened.
But he said to them, "It is I, don't be afraid".
Then they were willing to take him into the boat, and immediately the boat reached the shore where they were heading.
