The President and the Vice-President offer a prayer for those affected by hurricane Melissa 🙏

Bishop Reverend Juan M. Simpson, Connexional President of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and the Americas has said, "As soon as all clear is given for people to move around without putting their lives at risk, we will be establishing where resources will be needed, both food and roof repair materials.”

Loving God,
We offer you our prayers for people of the Caribbean, particularly Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and nearby islands.
For those whose loved ones have been killed, we pray for comfort.
For people who have been injured, we pray for those bringing medical aid to come quickly.
For those anxious about the destruction around them or the coming wind and rain, we pray for your peace.
For the public and emergency services, and those bringing aid, we pray for strength.
We pray for our partner Churches in the Jamaica and Haiti districts of the Methodist Church in the Caribbean and Americas and in the Methodist Church in Cuba.
Help them as they pray with and serve the community around them, may they know your presence at this time.
Help us in Britain to be responsive in our prayer and solidarity with them as the news of the effects of this hurricane become clearer in the coming days.
In the name of Christ we pray,
Amen

Today we joined with friends from St George’s Clun for a special service marking 30 years of ecumenical work and the signing of the ‘Declaration of intent’ in 1995 in which the churches pledged to work together.
The service was led by Rt Rev Richard Jackson, Bishop of Hereford ,with Rev George Heinz, Methodist minister of Clun, preaching and Rev Lois Beynon of St George’s also taking part in what was a very joyful occasion.

Pray with us today.

Gracious and loving God, we thank you for those treasures we have from you – the gifts of different resources, wisdom, understanding and compassion. Encourage us to be willing to share those gifts and not to hide them away. As we journey through this connexional year help us to be truly present in the light and dark of our own lives so that we can encounter your presence with us. Through our personal experiences and discipleship may we also be willing to share the light and darkness of those we are called to serve in our different communities. We pray in the name of Christ. Amen

Pray with us today.

Creator God, you separated light and darkness giving us the precious gifts of day and night. You used the stars of the sky to illustrate your covenant promises. You sent messengers to the shepherds as they kept watch by night. Speak to us through the darkness.

Christ Jesus, you often prayed under the cover of darkness, searching for guidance about the next steps in your journey. In Gethsemane we sense you wrestling with questions yet affirming your commitment to God’s will. From the hidden darkness of the tomb came resurrection and new life. Intercede with us in the darkness.

Holy Spirit, you brooded over the waters of the deep, calling forth rich treasures where we saw only a void. Elizabeth was filled with your presence as her baby leapt for joy in the darkness of the womb. In the secret depths of sleep, you spoke to your servants through dreams and visions. Show us what is hidden in the darkness. Amen.

Wishing everyone a happy and blessed Easter

He is risen! Alleluia!

Today, on Easter Sunday, we celebrate Jesus' resurrection three days after His death on the cross.

"When they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had already been rolled back. As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter that he is going ahead of you to Galilee; there you will see him, just as he told you.”

Mark 16: 5-7

We pray that you have a wonderful and blessed Easter. 💙

Today we are reminded that in the darkness of the tomb is a deeply hidden treasure.

Throughout the feelings of hopelessness we see glimmers of hope, and reflect on the bravery of showing love and care during this difficult time.

A prayer for the week ahead 💙

May you know that you are loved by God and deeply wonderful.

Pray with us today.

Loving God who created all that lives, from the tiniest amoeba to the greatest of whales, which fill us with wonder and awe. We recognise your amazing ability to create out of what seems to be an impossibility, yet, we believe that all things are possible with you and we are grateful for your loving care.

Creator God, we believe that you created us, and that in each of us is something of a seed, an essence from you, a potential to grow and to influence others. May our seed have positive conditions for growth and become an influence for good in the world, helping to care for people in need and preserving life in all its forms.

Pray with us today.

Faithful God,
we trust in your promise that the darkness so often contains treasures:
maybe not of our choosing, or initially inviting;
maybe lacking the shine and allure of other more obvious treasure.

May we have the wisdom to dig deep,
to slow our days, to sift our diaries,
to make the space to spot the hidden,
to explore and appreciate all that you have for us.

Help us to see life afresh through your eyes,
to appreciate its darkness and light, its dirt and beauty,
and to be so much more deeply aware
of the treasury of your overflowing love. Amen.
