📱 Mobile Phone Expectations – September

As we prepare to welcome pupils back in September, we would like to remind families of our updated mobile phone expectations, which are in line with current government guidance for schools.

During the school day, mobile phones must not be seen, heard or accessed. This applies throughout the school day, including lessons, break times and unstructured social periods.

If a pupil is found with an unauthorised phone:

📵 Confiscation: The device will be taken immediately by a member of staff. Failure to hand over the device will result in a further consequence.
🔒 Secure storage: The phone will be safely locked away for the remainder of the school day.
🕒 Pupils can collect confiscated phones at the end of the school day from pupil services, following this - a 30 minute detention will be issued.
🩺 Medical exemptions
We recognise that some pupils need to use a mobile phone or smart device to monitor a medical condition, such as a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) for diabetes.

Authorised pupils will be permitted to access their device strictly for medical monitoring purposes. These pupils will have a medical exemption card, and the exemption will be recorded on Arbor.

If your child requires a medical exemption, please contact the school before September so that this can be recorded on our system.

Medical devices must not be used for social media, messaging or any other non-medical purpose during the school day.

🚌 Travelling to and from school
We understand that some pupils travelling by bus may need their phone to access or show their bus pass.

If a pupil brings a phone onto the school site and does not have a medical exemption, it must be:

Completely switched off.
Kept securely inside their school bag.
Stored in their school bag from the moment they enter the school gates until they leave at the end of the school day.
Phones must not be kept in blazer or trouser pockets.

Thank you to all our pupils, parents and carers for supporting these expectations. Our aim is to create a focused, safe and positive environment where pupils can learn and socialise without the distraction of mobile phones.

Yesterday we celebrated the centenary of English Martyrs church in Whalley. We had a very well attended Mass (pictures to follow) where our Dean , Fr Mark Harold, gave the Homily. This was followed by a buffet style lunch in the marquee. Many many thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to make yesterday’s celebration such a success. Ad Multos Annos!
