REASONS FOR SUPPORTING FAIRTRADE

“I didn’t know I was punishing the land, now because of this project I’ve seen the benefits, there are more nutrients in the soil.” Saddick Abanga, Fairtrade cocoa farmer, Ghana, on how Fairtrade enables him to farm cocoa more sustainably.

Income from Fairtrade sales has meant tea growers in India investing in organic methods.
It’s meant solar panels generating electricity for cocoa farmers in Côte d’Ivoire.

Fairtrade banana growers in Colombia have used their income to buy medical equipment for their community during the global pandemic.
Fairtrade gender committees support women on Fairtrade flower farms to assert their rights and tackle abuse and discrimination.

From CAFOD website:

Genuine gratitude is transformative. It builds relationships and communities. It opens us to the needs of others and moves us to compassion and care. As many scientific studies have shown it even helps keep us well!

As we learn to see the world and all we have as a gift, we are inspired and energised to care for the earth and work together to create a more just world, where all people can share the abundance of creation.

Today on Family Fast Day, let’s strive to live gratefully, with hearts open to all our sisters and brothers in need. Like the Samaritan in this gospel, let’s return to the source of our gifts with thankful hearts, ready to allow our gratitude to stretch and change us.

Today on the Feast of St Joseph the Worker, let us pray for all of those who have worked so hard to serve us throughout this time of pandemic. Let us remember their dignity and continue to value their work in the months and years to come as we move out of this crisis.

Today is the Feast of St George, Patron Saint of England. A Roman soldier of Greek and Palestinian origin, who was sentenced to death for refusing to recant his Christian faith. His image is depicted in the stained glass at the cathedral. St George, Pray for Us.

ALIVE!
“HE’S ALIVE!”
What?
Elated cries of (demented?) folk running through the streets.
Shouting. “He’s alive!” “Alive!!”
WHAT!!!?
No… impossible… nonsense… But…
Longing so much, so, so much; it begins to dawn.
Suddenly it’s another day.
Another. Bright. Beautiful. Day.
The third day.
Mourning
Is broken.
And little by little it comes together.
The cryptic clues,
The hidden hints.
The last piece of the puzzle.
Solved! So simple, after all.
He’s alive.
Alive… alive!!! Alive-luia!!!
ALL-E-LU-IA!!!

04/04/2021

The Lord is truly risen, alleluia.
To him be glory and power
for all the ages of eternity, alleluia, alleluia.
