We recognise that we are living in anxious and uncertain times and offer resources and connections on our website that we hope will provide comfort, connection and inspiration at a time when so much of ‘ordinary’ life is disrupted.

The Coat of Hopes arrived in Bristol on May 19th and was welcomed to St Paul’s by the Climate Choir singing the ‘Coat of Hopes’ song.

For much of its five week stay in Bristol, The Coat has been hosted by St Paul’s but has been taken out and about in Bristol to many different events and climate related groups.

The Coat was created in 2021 by Barbara Keal, and was then a much smaller version of today’s magnificent Coat. It has walked from Newhaven on the south coast (with its very first patch) to Glasgow for the COP26 Climate Summit. Along the way, it has grown as hundreds of people have added small patches to the coat to represent their individual and collective responses to the climate crisis.

The Coat was created through pilgrimage and continues to travel around the country as a focus for environmental action and activism. Its creators see it as a walking metaphor for shared responsibility, vulnerability and hope.

Today is Pentecost 🕊️

Pentecost (which comes from the Greek word for ‘fiftieth’) has its roots in the Jewish Feast of Weeks.

Fifty days after Easter Day, the Church celebrates Pentecost, which brings the Easter season to a close.

It is one of the major feasts of the Church year, where Christians remember how God sent the Holy Spirit upon the disciples after Jesus’ ascension, empowering them to begin the work of making disciples of all nations.

Join us at 10:30am for our service for Pentecost at St Paul's. You are welcome here 💛

Tomorrow, join the OEM Choral Scholars for Great Sacred Music - a 40-minute lunchtime sequence of words and music exploring, through song and readings, the great classical music of our religious heritage.

In their last GSM of the academic year, our Scholars will be singing choral music by Philip Wilby, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Rani Arbo, William Mathias, and Joseph Haydn. Best of all (in a first for OEM!) reflections will be provided entirely by OEM Scholars and staff - don't miss out!

Wed 20 May, 1:15pm at St Paul's Clifton BS8 1LP - FREE admission

as heard at St Martin-in-the-Fields.

"Their eyes are brighter, they stand up a bit taller. Singing gives them a sense of purpose and belonging[...]" 💛

It is heartwarming to see the work of the One Equal Music project being highlighted in a recent Bristol24/7 article about the positive impact choirs and singing together is having on the welfare, wellbeing, and cohesion of communities in East Bristol.

Kiran Dhami, reporting on St George, Easton and Eastville as part of Bristol24/7’s Community Reporters programme, came along to see the East Bristol Young Voices Choir in action, noting the wider context in which singing has become increasingly important for wellbeing in young poeple.

The East Bristol Young Voices Choir was established through OEM's East Bristol partnership, offering young people in East Bristol the opportunity to sing in a fun, free, and high quality choir rooted in the local community.

This is just one of a number of projects OEM has established through its mission to widen access to musical opportunities, in order to improve wellbeing, foster community, raise confidence, and encourage talent.
