There is little as precious as spending an entire weekend as a whole church family! 😊

This weekend we learnt from the Bible book of Jonah together, prayed together, played together, and hung out together over some fish and chips.

We particularly reflected on God's outrageous mercy and compassion for self-righteous sinners, and how we grow in compassion for each other and for the lost.

The kids enjoyed making the boat Jonah was in and seeing if it would float πŸ›Ά

Thanks to Andy Constable from Niddrie Community Church for bringing us God's word from Jonah 1-3 on Saturday, and to Matt Oliver from Hardwick Baptist Church for preaching from Jonah 4 on Sunday. Thanks also to Mirfield Evangelical Church for letting us use their building. How wonderful to partner in the Gospel with these three churches in these ways!

Today 9 years ago, we held our first church service! A lot has happened since then, but God has been faithful to His promises to uphold us, to grow us, and to make us more like Jesus. Praise Him!

When we fail to trust the Lord to keep us and protect us, and to provide all the blessings He promises, we fail to enjoy the rest, peace, confidence and contentment the Lord gives us in Jesus.

The place where Jacob meets the extraordinary God is in the ordinary providential circumstances of life. That's where God finds us too. But when He does break through, He does it in an extraordinary way, because you cannot meet the Lord of glory and not have it be extraordinary in some way.

Paul's telling us here that to glorify God in all of life and especially in gathered worship, we need both men and women. As we together hear different voices united in praise and crying out to the Lord for grace and change of salvation, it brings glory to God.

What's worth it to lay down all our lives, our preferences, our energy, our time, our dearly held cultural values? For the sake of Jesus, the good of the gospel, the building of God's kingdom in his church. Listen to yesterday's sermon on 1 Corinthians 9 to find out what that looks like:
