Recent pilgrims to the Grotto. Amanda, Peter and Frances from London have recently completed the St Mary’s way pilgrimage walk from our cathedral in Lancaster all the way to Cleator. They are all active members of their Anglican parishes and have completed a number of pilgrimages over the last few years including the St Cuthberts Way in Northumberland, the London to Canterbury Way and the Camino in Spain. They particularly enjoyed the variety of landscapes our pilgrimage had to offer. The 67 mile route is now on the British Pilgrimage Trust Website: https://www.britishpilgrimage.org/portfolio/st-marys-way-catholic-diocese-lancaster

If you call down to the Grotto this weekend after Mass, you’ll see the new planting in the beds lining each side of the main path. 300 new perennials added to the existing fuchsias and daffodils. They will fill out into blocks of colour over the coming months and should put on a great display by the time of the Grotto’s one hundredth anniversary next year.

The gardening club have planted:
🌷Persicaria
💐 Sedum
🌸 Japanese anemone
🌺 Verbena
🌹 Rudbeckia
💐 Aster
🌸 Coneflowers
🪴Grasses
🌷phlomis

They should mostly be in flower (weather and rabbits allowing!) during August and September to coincide with the pilgrimage.

‘We adore you, O Christ, and we praise you, because by your holy cross, you have redeemed the world’

LENTEN MONASTIC DAY FOR MEN
Saturday 14th March | 09:00–19:30
St Mary’s Church

This Lent, St Mary’s Men’s Group warmly invites men from our parish and neighbouring parishes to join us for a Monastic Day led by Fr Leo Maidlow Davis OSB.

Inspired by the Benedictine tradition of “Pray and Work,” the day will include:

🕯 Morning Prayer
📖 Two spiritual conferences led by Fr Leo.
🙏 Midday & Evening Prayer
🛠 Practical work around the church & graveyard (for those able)
🌿 Quiet options for reading, reflection, or visiting the grotto
🍞 Lunch taken in silence
🙏 The Rosary
✝️ Opportunity for Confession
⛪ Holy Mass
🍽 Shared evening meal
🌙 Night Prayer (Compline)

The day begins at 09:00 and concludes at 19:30.

This is not about intensity — it is about stepping away from noise, entering a rhythm of prayer and work, and sharing fellowship with other Catholic men.

📵 Phones will be switched off or on silent throughout the day to help maintain a prayerful atmosphere.

To help us plan catering and work teams, please confirm your attendance by Monday 7th March and let us know:

• Full day or partial attendance
• Any dietary requirements
• Any practical skills you would be happy to offer

There is a suggested donation of £5 to help cover food and travel expenses for Fr Leo.
If you are able to give more, that would be gratefully received.
If cost is a difficulty, please simply come — no one will be turned away.

All men are very welcome.

To register, please contact: [email protected]

Or complete a confirmation slip at the back of the church.
