St Swithun’s, Long Bennington is being honoured by a visit from Canon Thomas Woodhead, senior Chaplain to the Duchy of Lancaster this Sunday, 2nd August at 10.30am.

The Duchy is an ancient title since 1399, held by the reigning monarch, and holds authority over the Church of England. We have been the recipient of grants towards repairs, particularly of our organ.

Although the arrangements are last minute, we really hope that as many people as possible can come to worship and support us.

The service has been changed to Holy Communion, with Rev Jon leading and Canon Thomas Woodhead preaching. We are also hoping to have an organist with live music.

Refreshments will be served afterwards.

We coordinate and support over 50 volunteer-run walks across Lincolnshire and Newark, that all come under the national Ramblers Wellbeing Walks scheme.

On Wednesday 1st July 10am Long Bennington Wellbeing Walks, starting at the Medical Centre.
Choose from a short or longer walk, suitable for all abilities.
After the walks stay for a coffee catch-up.
The walks are a great opportunity to meet new people, build social connections and support overall wellbeing.

A Wonderful Community !

Thank you to everyone who joined in the St Peter’s Day Festival. Such a lot of input from so many people. The Five Bells even rolled the barrel of beer down the road to us!

Claypole School members learnt about the life of St Peter and provided the church with shields to tell his story. Do come into Church and see the banner that has been hung up with all on the shields on it. One shield has all the usual .. upside down cross, crossed keys, cockerel…. even a rainbow and ban the bomb sign!
Younger pupils wrote prayers on fish shaped paper (provided by members of Community Cuppa) that are displayed in a fishing net.

We had a fab family day with a family service, crafts, games and picnics. Beer and summer punch throughout the day.

A different clientele arrived in the evening to sing Evensong which took me back to days when it was commonplace every week. That shows my age!

But I’ll never be as old as our amazing Parish Church. Do come into Church and pick up a leaflet that Robert Pabruki has produced showing all sorts of things that you don’t realise are there until you spend some time searching.

Thank you very much to the shops in Claypole for their support with our Festival. The Five Bells have been extremely kind in providing a barrel of beer. A cool glass of summer punch for me! Do come join us. St Peter’s Church bar will be open from 12.30.

Please don’t let the weather stop you… if it’s hot the Church is cool… if it’s raining; there’s plenty of room in Church for spreading your picnic on the pews😛
