St Peter and St Paul church, Clare, Suffolk

St Peter and St Paul church, Clare, Suffolk A warm welcome from St Peter and St Paul's Church - the Anglican church in the heart of beautiful Clare in Suffolk, UK. Part of the Stour Valley Benefice

14/06/2026

We continue our journey through "Ordinary Time", but there is nothing ordinary about this period of the Churches year. It is called this simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The Latin word 'ordinalis', refers to numbers in series, from which we get the English word 'order'.

The numbered weeks represent the ordered life of the Church - a period in which we live our lives neither in feasting (as in the Christmas and Easter seasons), nor in reflection or penance (as in the seasons of Advent and Lent), instead the Church focuses on growth and renewal, and looks forward in expectation of of the second coming of Christ.

Our services in our churches continue as normal, however, we recognise that through ill health, frailty, or infirmity, not everyone is able to join us every week. Therefore, if you are unable to attend in person, you are warmly invited to join in with our Rector, The Revd Mark Woodrow, from your own home, as he celebrates Holy Communion from the Vicarage.

The readings for today are Exodus 19:2-8a, Romans 5:1-8; and Matthew 9:35-10:23.

The hymns for today are, For the fruits of all creation, and, The kingdom of God is justice and joy.

A service booklet to accompany this service is also available please email [email protected] for a copy.

Today marks the beginning of "Ordinary Time", but there is nothing ordinary about this period of the Churches year. It is called this simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The Latin word 'ordinalis', refers to numbers in series, from which we get the English word 'order'.

The readings for today are Hosea 5:15-6:6, Romans 4:13-25, and Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26.

Our local churches would be completely lost without the team of volunteers who open and close the buildings, who clean them (and the toilets!), provide refreshments and welcome visitors, decorate and arrange flowers, organise music, play the organs and sing in choirs, who polish the brass and wash the linen, and a thousand and one other jobs!

Thank you to you all.

The Feast of the Most Holy Trinity celebrates the Christian doctrine of the Trinity, the three Persons of God: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. As is traditional our service today also include the Athanasian Creed, which has been in use since the sixth century, and is a statement of Christian belief focused on the Trinitarian doctrine and Christology.

Whilst our regular church services continue as normal, we recognise that for some due to illness or infirmity attendance in person is not always possible, therefore you are warmly invited to join in with our Rector, The Revd Mark Woodrow, and our Curate, The Revd Dr Karen Smith from your own home, as they celebrates Holy Communion from the Vicarage.

The readings for today are 2 Corinthians 13:11-13, and Matthew 28:16-20.

The hymns for today are, How shall I sing that majesty, and, Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!.

A service booklet to accompany this service is also available please email [email protected] for a copy.
