The Word of God is Living and Active, Sharper Than Any Two-Edged Sword - Hebrews 4:12.
Please join Pastor Stephen Clayden in this indepth and powerful teaching on Hebrews 4:12. This is a verse which sits alone and isolated right in the middle of the book of Hebrews, and is not impacted or effected by the immediate context surrounding it. It describes the Word of God as being living and active, in that its Author exists outside of time, it is still being fulfilled, and it is still transforming the lives of those who believe it. The Word of God is also described as being sharper than any two-edged sword, which divides between soul and spirit. There sometimes can be a conflict of wills between the soul and the spirit, and it sometimes can be difficult to see the very fine line where the soul ends and the spirit begins. The Word of God is so sharp that it has the ability to pierce this fine line and to separate the two. The writer of Hebrews compares the relationship between the soul and the spirit to bones and marrow. Likewise, the fine line between bone and marrow cannot be seen with the naked eye. The marrow is what gives life to our bodies in that it produces the blood cells our bodies need in order to be able to live. Likewise the Spirit is what gives us eternal life. If we want to know what comes from the Spirit and what comes from our own minds, then the word of God will tell us.
