SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS AND DISABILITIES ANNOUNCEMENT from our new Member of Parliament for South Derbyshire

Earlier in the general election campaign I was interviewed briefly for East Midlands Today when they did a show live from Melbourne.

I said that addressing the lack of provision for people with special educational needs and disabilities was one of my top priorities, and I meant it.

The first step on this long journey to making things better is for people to no longer feel alone as they desperately try and navigate a system set up to fail them.

On Saturday 13th July you can come and join me as we have our inaugural meeting of the ‘South Derbyshire for SEND Network’ (we can work on the name together later….!)

For any parent, grandparent, or guardian of anyone (not just children) with SEND needs and for people who are already doing great work of their own in this field, and for anyone passionate about making a difference for SEND.

Let’s come together so we get to know each other and arrange our next steps.

I already have some ideas planned but I am keen to hear what you want and need.

There’s parking for 80 cars in church hall car park.
Flat access from the car park into hall for full accessibility needs.

Otherwise there is parking for 3 hours in Morrisons car park (4 mins walk away)

Remember it’s OK - No to be ok.

(King’s College London conducted research showing that maybe 1/2 of all our teenagers came out of lockdown ‘traumatised’… no wonder we have so many exclusions from schools and youth mental health referrals across the UK.
And we haven’t even begun to really look at the adult population.
