Today we welcomed back our ex-minister Rev Hilary Howarth who spoke about the Lord’s Prayer 🙏

She made us think about the words which are said daily, privately, in groups, in churches and all over the world on countless occasions 🌎

When a baby is born, when someone is dying, at weddings, in times of stress and pain, in school assemblies, at all times ✨

Somewhere in the world people will be saying it at this very moment. That is a wonderful thought 💭

The Lord’s Prayer is an integral part of the Christian tradition. Knowing that others around the world are using it fosters unity and our shared kingdom values 🤲

It puts us in our place and God in THE place in our lives. It gives us the chance to share an outpouring of all we are experiencing, laying it all on love 💕

And we can do this for ever and ever. Amen.

A beautiful service this morning from our own Mrs Susan Akhurst 🙏

She talked about A.A. Milne’s classic storybook Winnie-the-Pooh, in which Pooh and his good friend Piglet set out to catch themselves a heffalump 🐘

Pooh created a cunning sort of trap. He decided that they will dig a deep hole and then place a jar of honey as bait at the bottom so the heffalump will be lured in but won’t be able to escape 🍯

For Pooh, what matters is what a pot really contains all the way down. If it’s only got honey at the top, but something quite different underneath, that is something he believes you ought to know about 😊

Jesus held the same view. His harshest words in the New Testament were against the Pharisees. He wasn’t trying to get people to behave more religiously. Jesus didn’t want you to go to church more or sing more hymns 🎶

He talked about transformation of the human heart. He wants us to become people who, from top to bottom, are formed in the way of love. People who are through and through pure and holy and loving 🥰

May our hearts be filled to overflowing with love, all the way down! 💕

We have all heard of the sad passing of singer and songwriter Dolly Parton 🦋

She was truly a bright light shining in the world, and that light will continue to shine through the effects of her compassion, generosity and philanthropy 💖

Dolly lived the Gospel call to love your neighbour and will never be forgotten 🙏

Please note Open Doors is now closed ❌

These pictures were taken last Thursday whilst everyone enjoyed chatting, listening to stories from Winnie the Pooh and a tasty afternoon tea 🫖🍰

We will reopen on Tuesday, 1st September 🥰

Today we learnt about the bible reading Matthew 14:22-33 in which Jesus walked on water 💧

Jesus sent His disciples on ahead in a boat to cross the Sea of Galilee. He made room for time alone with God. This is the first important lesson we can take from the account to help us weather the storms of life ⛈️

Jesus sends the disciples away so He can be alone on the mountain to pray. Even with the needs of so many people pressing in on Him, the Lord makes solitary time with God His priority 🙏

As the disciples are crossing the sea, a fierce and frightening storm kicks up. Very early in the morning, Jesus comes walking toward them on the water. Thinking He is a ghost, the disciples are terrified 😱

Even though they have been with Christ for a long time, they don’t recognise Jesus as He approaches in the storm. Sometimes we fail to recognise the Lord when He comes alongside us during our own personal storms ⚡️

But Jesus understands the immaturity of our faith. Peter, ever enthusiastic and impulsive, replies, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.” The Lord invites Peter to come, and the disciple steps out of the boat 🦶

Peter walks on water toward Jesus. His baby steps of faith last only a moment, though, and then he takes his eyes off of the Lord. With his physical sight, Peter sees the wind and waves surrounding him, and “he was afraid” and begins to sink 😮

Peter cries out, “Lord, save me!” and Jesus instantly reaches out His hand to catch Peter. “You of little faith,” Jesus says, “Why did you doubt?” For believers, the lesson here is unmistakable 🌈

If we take our eyes off Jesus and focus on our circumstances, we will fall under the weight of our problems. If we call to Jesus in faith, he will catch us and lift us above our seemingly impossible situation ✨

As Pride Month comes to an end, join us in prayer 🙏

Loving God,

We thank you for the richness of Diversity which you have created. As we have been through the month of June, when the LGBTQ+ community have celebrated Pride, we ask of you:

Teach us the real meaning of 'All are welcome' where all are fully and richly included in every aspect of our Christian Lives. Reach out to those who do not know you yet but are seeking.

Work on the hearts of those who cannot accept us, that they may have a change of heart and mandate a willingness to be inclusive.

We thank you God for the love you give and we trust that even now hearts are being touched by the power of your Holy Spirit.

Amen 🌈

This morning we had the pleasure of welcoming Rev Robert Amos and his famous guitar 🎶

He talked about Barnabas and the value of encouraging others. Joseph was his real name, but the Apostles nicknamed him Barnabas because Barnabas means “Son of Encouragement” ✨

He had a gift which was used to inspire people to do their best for God. Even the greatest men in the Bible often needed encouragement. God involved Barnabas in inspiring at least two of the most important men in the New Testament 🙏

Today we want you to encourage everyone you come in contact with. Put a smile on your face and tell someone that they are doing a good job. Your kind words may be the inspiration someone needs to hear 🌈

(Thank you to Robert for his selfie shortly after the service) 🤳
