Today is World Environment Day, which is held on June 5th every year and has been since 1973!

The day acts as a global platform - with 143 countries participating - to raise awareness of all environmental issues the world faces, and to encourage people to take action with protecting the environment around them, now and for future generations.

The damage and threat is happening now, it is not solely the future that is at risk.

Environmental issues include but are not limited to:

Marine pollution
Global warming
Overpopulation
Sustainable development.
Wildlife crime.

Each year there is a theme, this year’s theme being, ‘Climate Action’. Guided by the theme, businesses , non-government organisations, communities, celebrities and politicians can advocate the various causes and issues - we can also do our bit.

Tomorrow marks the beginning of Volunteers’ Week! Launched in 1984, it is a week here in the U.K. that is held to celebrate and recognise the work of volunteers.

Volunteering plays a significant role in society, with millions of people donating their time and skills. In many cases, people will volunteer with more than one charity or organisation.

Here at St Mary’s, we are no different to any other charity or organisation, that relies on the kindness and willingness of volunteers. From church services and social events to churchyard maintenance, none of these would be possible and run so smoothly without the invaluable, selfless and devoted work of volunteers; small teams made up of volunteers from the congregation and Chirk community, and beyond.

We always welcome new volunteers!

So a BIG, BIG, thank you to each and every person who volunteers with us at St Mary’s 💖 Diolch yn fawr iawn 💖

On Tuesday and every first Tuesday of the month, there is a home-bake stall at Mini Market.

Why not pop along between 10am-12noon, and see what cakes are on offer, either savor one with a cuppa at St Mary’s and/or take one home.

Everyone welcome.

Thank to everyone who came along to our prize bingo evening last Friday, 35 people came along and had a fun evening.

As always, thank you so much to everyone who volunteered and helped out, and for all the prizes donated.

We also sold some more raffle tickets for our Summer Raffle, which has an array of great prizes. Tickets for this raffle are on sale all through June.

We hope to hold another prize bingo evening, maybe in August, so watch this space for more information over the summer months.

When the sun hits 30°C, our ancient stone walls become the best air‑con in town!
St Mary’s is open all day — pop in for a quiet moment, a wander, or simply to cool off in the calm. 😎

We're sorry if you couldn't hear the bells on our earlier reel - we have no idea why! It does work on the Story, if you watch that instead.

This is part of the quarter peal attempt this morning to celebrate the Confirmation of some of our young people at St Asaph Cathedral this afternoon.
