Trinity Chippenham

Trinity Chippenham TC is a community church based in Chippenham. We meet together at 4pm every Sunday at Hardenhuish School.

We are a mixed aged church with vibrant ministry groups for children as well as weekly mixed life groups and youth group. A church for the community - one of our main values as a church is that we are relaxed and easy for newcomers or people not used to church to come along, feel part of church life and explore what it is to be a Christian and what the bible says. We are welcoming, real with the struggles of life, and excited about the transformation available in relationship with Christ!

On Sunday, in the second week of our Unhindered series, Andy preached from Acts Chapter 21. In this chapter, Paul is on his way back from his third missionary journey and, making his way back to Jerusalem, he came across a number of Christians who tried to discourage him from going, predicting the suffering that would be waiting for him there. Even though it was God's will for him to go, it was clear that the Christians were trying to protect their friend from danger.

Despite the warnings, and knowing what he was walking into, Paul went anyway. But how was he able to show such courage in the face of adversity, and how can we learn from Paul's example and do the right thing even though we know it could cost us?

In the books of Acts and Luke, Luke draws parallels between Peter and Paul; both of whom said they were willing to lay their lives down for Jesus, but Peter failed, so what was the difference? Paul was captured by the good news of the grace of God, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, which was poured out on him at Pentecost. In Acts 1 verse 8, Jesus says to his disciples, "you will receive power when my holy spirit comes upon you and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth". Paul didn't have to rely on his own strength, but was filled with the boldness of the spirit.

How can we follow God's call in our life, even though it means a personal cost? It's simple; we have the same good news as Paul, God's grace has been poured out on us, as it was Paul, and when we became Christians, the holy spirit came to live within us. Andy explained that when we are faced with doing the right thing we can often feel scared. Scared of what people may think or what we might have to give up, but he encouraged us to remember that we have the same as Paul had when he was so brave in Jerusalem.

This week, why not reflect on the things in your life which you know are right to do, but you find scary? Why not take some time to remember that knowing Jesus and knowing his love for you should change everything. How will you step out in faith this week?

How is it possible that the good news about Jesus keeps spreading and changing lives? How does that work when there is opposition from antagonistic religion, corrupt authorities, challenging circumstances, and genuine suffering?

Join us this Sunday as we begin our new series, Unhindered! Come along to Hardenhuish School from 4pm - we look forward to seeing you!

On Sunday, we officially welcomed Ben and Geoff to the pastoral team, as we came together as a church to pray them into their new roles as elders.

As our church grows, it remains incredibly important to us to look to the bible for its guidance on church leadership and we see consistent biblical support for having a team of spiritual leaders rather than one leader at the top of a hierarchy.

After prayerful consideration we are delighted to welcome Geoff and Ben to the team. We hope you will join us in continuing to pray for them as they step into their role of feeding, leading, caring for, protecting and mentoring our church family.

On Sunday, Peter continued our Strengthen series and preached from Titus Chapter 2, about how God's grace changes us. In verses 1 - 10, Paul talks directly to 5 groups of people; older men, older women, younger women, younger men and servants or employees. By Paul's instructions on how each group should live, we can clearly identify what the problems of the time would have been, and sadly we see the same problems in today's culture. Peter encouraged us to consider whether Paul was only speaking to the people of the churches in Crete, or whether his words are timeless and apply to all of us, throughout all time.

Paul's words are clear; by saying no to ungodliness and wordly passions and living self controlled and upright lives, we can all model a beautiful picture of God's grace and love, making the teaching of Jesus our saviour, attractive to others.

Last Sunday we heard more from Titus as Andy preached from chapter 1 verses 5-16. When Paul wrote this letter, the precious spiritual life of the churches in Crete was under threat and Paul was desperate to protect them. False teaching was causing God's children to go astray; a picture that we can clearly recognise in today's culture.

But Andy reminded us that amongst all the confusion and mixed messages that we hear in our world, the Bible remains the one solid and constant source of truth. God's word has never changed, only the culture, and churches are stronger when the leaders, and those they shepherd, hold firm to the truth within it and call out the conflicting messages of the outside world.

Andy encouraged us that as Christians following the Bible, we can all grow in two ways: in discernment, so we can spot false teaching more quickly, and in courage, to share the truth openly and joyfully point others to Jesus.

Join us today as Peter preaches the last sermon in this series. We look forward to seeing you!

How can churches be strengthened in the midst of a culture full of powerful messages that are opposed to the gospel?

Join us on Sunday as we continue our new values series, Strengthen, going through the book of Titus. We will spend some time in Titus chapter 1, looking at how holding firm to the truth makes all the difference in a world that has lost its way.
