Eid Mubarak!

Tonight is the beginning of Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates Ibrahim's (peace be upon him; Abraham in Jewish tradition) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. Abraham is the shared patriarch of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. The themes of faith, obedience, and divine mercy are central to all three traditions.

๐Ÿ“œ This Shabbat, Jewish communities around the world are reading Parashat Behar-Bechukotai, from the book of ื•ื™ืงืจื - Vayikra (Leviticus).

Every seventh year the land rests; every fiftieth year debts are cancelled and slaves go free; blessings and warnings follow.

As we enter Shabbat, we also look ahead to Sunday, when many will gather at 1pm outside Downing Street to stand with British Jews against the rise of anti-Jewish hate.

For those attending: no bags are permitted, searches will be in place, and entrance is only via the Trafalgar Square end of Whitehall or Whitehall Place.
