DAY 10 – Amen

Today is our last day thinking about The Lord's Prayer - but do keep praying for your 5 chosen people and notice what happens in their lives!

Final meditation

Amen means ‘I agree’ – it’s like signing your name at the end of a prayer, committing ourselves to joining in – but do we?

Do we actually let any prayer we’ve made shape our lives- intending to change the way we live?

When we say Amen at the end of the Lord’s Prayer we are agreeing that we have responsibilities to ourselves and others, that we are willing to be led by God, that we agree that the things we do that hurt us and others need to change.

We are letting go of power and seeking glory, and humbly following God in the way we see Jesus acting in the Bible.

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – ask God to move us to a humble place, where we are willing to walk with God and follow his lead. AMEN

DAY 9 – lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil

Pray for your 5 today!

Lord's Prayer meditation

Although doing life God’s way seems to make sense, humans are always tempted by what seems easier, quicker, cheaper, better for us personally.

When we pray ‘lead us not into temptation and deliver us from evil’ we are asking for God’s protection, sometimes from ourselves.

The Bible includes an image of God as shepherd and us as his sheep.

God would never ‘lead’ us into harm, the prayer is asking for God to lead us in a way that is NOT near temptations and evils.

There are many paths we can take in life, but the one with God is the safest and best for us AND those around us in the long run.

The greatest temptation is thinking that we don’t need God, and we can manage on our own – so we end up putting our trust in ourselves. This leads to all sorts of problems!

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – pray for wisdom, for trust in God’s ways and God’s protection from harm (especially from ourselves).

DAY 8 – as we forgive those who trespass against us

Pray for your 5 today!

The Lord's prayer study...

Forgiving people that have hurt us is not easy. Forgiving is not saying it was OK – but being able to let go of it – so that it doesn’t eat us up.

None of us are perfect – all humans mess up – and God still loves us – this is what we call God’s grace.

If God forgives – who are we not to try.

As you pray for your 5 today – pray that they find the strength to forgive where it is needed.

DAY 7 – Forgive our trespasses ...

Remember to pray for your 5 chosen people.

Lord's Prayer study for today

Trespasses and sins are not words we hear much today – but they basically mean – anything that is not good for us or others.

It could be words or ideas, thoughts or behaviours – anything that causes physical, mental or spiritual harm to ourselves or others.

God loves us and wants better for his children.

The Bible tells us that God forgives our trespasses/sins if we ask him – and God wipes them from his memory.

Then, if we can stop repeating the mistakes - we see huge transformation in us and others.

Sometimes changing our ways is hard, but God promises to help us – we just need to ask.

Sometimes it’s hard to accept we are forgiven by God – God can help us with this too if we ask him.

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – ask for God’s Spirit to change hearts and minds, to remove stubbornness and help us to want God’s forgiveness.

DAY 6 – Give us this day our daily bread

Pray for your 5 chosen people today.

This part of The Lord's Prayer isn’t just about food, but everything that we need. We are asking God to provide what we need (not necessarily what we want, especially if it’s bad for us).

It’s about trusting that God will provide what we need each day – so that we’re not greedy, taking more than we need, so others don’t have enough.

Trust in God takes courage and practice, but when we do, and we put others needs before our own, we see change.

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – pray for changed hearts, for trust in God and pray for those around us who do not have enough of what they need.

DAY 5 – On earth, as it is in heaven ....

Pray for your 5 today!

And study with us…

The Bible talks about a new creation to come – a re-creation - Jesus returning one day and heaven coming down to earth making everything new. God’s perfect rule taking over.

Until that day, when God’s will is done it’s like shafts of heaven shining through onto the earth. The more good we do, the more heaven we see.

As you pray for your 5 today - pray that they will contribute to heaven coming to earth - God’s light shining through them.

Day 4 – Thy will be done ...

Pray for your 5 today!

And study with us…

‘Your will be done’ – God’s will is God’s dreams and desires for his children and the world he created. God gives us free-will but we are only living our best lives when we do what is best for us - that’s the way we were created.

We rarely know what is best for us – but God knows. When we pray ‘Thy (your) will be done’, we are asking for God to change situations for the best. We are asking to be changed, to be more like God.

God can be trusted – God always has the best intentions for our lives.

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – pray that God’s will be done in all your lives.

DAY 3 – Thy Kingdom Come ....

Pray for your 5 today!

And study The Lord's Prayer with us…

The Kingdom of God isn’t a place you can find on a map, it’s not driven by power, money and greed. And it’s not run by any king we’ve experienced.

The Kingdom of God is a way of ruling – the just, loving, patient, kind and gentle way of ruling that God has, and wants us to copy. Praying ‘thy (your) kingdom come’ is asking God to help us live our lives in this way, and modelling it for others.

God loves us, and knows that living like this can change the lives around us for the better. God wants the best for all his children.

As you pray for yourself and your 5 today – pray that you are all given the skills you need to live in this way – kind, loving, patient, and generous.

DAY 2 – Our Father who art in heaven

Pray for your 5 today!

And study with us …

‘Our Father’ – we looked at this yesterday but there’s more!

It isn’t my Father, my God but OURS.

As we say the Lord’s Prayer, remember we are praying for a deep belonging to one another. Think about the 2.4 billion Christians around the world praying it too.

Throughout the prayer we use the plural – us, we, ours, those. We all have the same basic needs, and we are stronger together. No one is excluded. God loves everyone.

The Christian faith challenges us to love one another, welcome strangers, tear down barriers, love enemies. Even though it’s not always easy. But, with God’s help, it can change the world.

As you pray for your 5 today – pray that they find good people to do life with, Christians they can share faith with. Think about all the people like you who are praying for 5 – and for the 5 people they are praying for!

DAY 1 - Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be your name

Have you chosen your 5? Pray for them today. Ask God to speak to them.

And study with us …

Jesus says call God ‘Father’. Even though God is not human, doesn’t have a gender, and some of us might have had a difficult relationship with our human father.

But Jesus is showing us, that this ‘Father’ – GOD – will never let us down. That we all have access to a loving relationship with God, like the relationship between a loving parent and a cherished child.

‘Our’ Father – meaning ‘Father of ours’.

It’s the most important part of the prayer, which is why it comes first.

The all-powerful, all-knowing, creator of everything, is OUR Father. Your Father, my Father.

He’s ‘hallowed’ meaning the most holy.

As you pray for your 5 chosen people today – pray that they come to know God as their Father – who loves them and is the source of everything. And pray for yourself too!
