Cheltenham Street Pastors

Cheltenham Street Pastors We are Christians from Churches within Cheltenham area. We aim to Listen, Care and Help. We patrol on Fridays and Saturday nights 10pm to 4am.

We are available to ensure you have a safe night out and return home safely. Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue. It was pioneered in London in January 2003 by Rev Les Isaac, Director of the Ascension Trust, and has seen some remarkable results, including drops in crime in areas where teams ha

ve been working. There are now over 100 teams around the United Kingdom. Each city project is set up by Ascension Trust and run by a local coordinator with support from Ascension Trust and local churches and community groups, in partnership with Police, Council and other statutory agencies.

What an extraordinarily powerful and moving farewell – truly a funeral fit for our greatest Queen. All those involved, from the young guardsmen carrying the coffin to the security services who worked in the shadows to keep world leaders safe, should take quiet pride in having done their duty to perfection.

In his sermon, the Archbishop of Canterbury noted that the pattern for many leaders is to be exalted in life but forgotten after death. Let us instead dedicate ourselves to remembering Queen Elizabeth II’s example and the values she so nobly advanced: selflessness, service, integrity and courage.

They embody the best of our nation – not merely values from the past, but what we must stand for in the future.

And let us never forget too the unity of this moment. In London’s famous queue, on the steps of ’s municipal offices, in Gloucester Cathedral, people of all faiths, backgrounds, creeds and cultures came together as one nation to mourn the Queen and support King Charles III. In death, Her late Majesty taught us an abiding lesson: more unites us than divides us.

God Save the King.
